Update: Live Geoff Every Night
The voice of Geoff Petersen, Josh Robert Thompson tweeted on Wednesday evening:
As of today, I am officially performing/voicing @GeofftheRobot live EVERY NIGHT on @CraigyFerg! You’re welcome, gay robot fanatics. #RSA
Congratulations, Josh on a well-deserved reward for your hard work and your ability to keep Craig laughing.
Ferguson on Leno
The Tonight Show with Jay Leno website shows Craig Ferguson as a guest on Wednesday, July 13th. Thanks to the RSA’s Yo for sending us the link on NBC’s Tonight Show website. The unusual situation of one late night host appearing on another’s show on a competing network is not unheard of… Craig appeared on Conan O’Brien‘s TBS late night show recently. The appearance is likely (as the RSA’s Bruce Bromley suggested) a chance to promote Disney’s Winnie The Pooh, which opens in wide release in the US and Canada two days later on Friday the 15th. Craig is one of the most recognizable celebrity voices in the animated feature film, along with John Cleese… and because Craig is based in Los Angeles, The Tonight Show an convenient stop for Disney’s promotion team to place one of the film’s billable stars. The last time a competitor appeared on the Tonight Show, ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel pointedly mocked host Jay Leno in the wake of NBC’s late night debacle that moved Leno to a prime time show, moved up O’Brien an hour to 11:35pm and subsequently dumped O’Brien to bring Leno back to his old time slot. Time has passed since then. Will there be any fireworks or will the talk be contained mostly to Craig’s role as Owl in the film? We’ll find out on July 13th.
Dressing Paris
Craig’s banter with Paris Hilton over her shoulder-padded, 1960’s-evoking Judy Jetson or “air hostess” dress got some attention from New York Magazine, Monsters & Critics, FadedYouthBlog.com and HeatWorld.com.
Gaiman on Doctor Who
BBC America took note of Neil Gaiman‘s appearance on the Late Late Show, in which the novelist (not to mention writer of the fourth episode of the current series of Doctor Who) got to talk about his experience with the popular program.
@BBCAMERICA Last night on The Late Late Show, @CraigyFerg & @Neilhimself talked #DoctorWho http://t.co/wTeUEwl
Craig enjoyed Gaiman’s appearance and his scent, apparently:
Despite @neilhimself wearing a black t shirt which was in flagrant disregard of my wishes, he was delightful. He smells like cherries.
Gaiman tweeted that he had a good time:
Was so nervous before @CraigyFerg taping. Then sat down at the desk & he was so welcoming & funny I forgot about everything except chatting.
No Monologue Tuesday
You weren’t hallucinating… there was no monologue on Tuesday’s show. We’re not sure of the reason. Perhaps Craig just felt like zigging while others were zagging. Or maybe because he missed the emails on Monday, he wanted to take ten minutes for email on Tuesday. He might have wanted more time with Neil Gaiman. Or as the RSA’s General @Malinky2Stoatir tweeted, the reason may have been more simple:
Craig mentioned during tonight’s cold open, that he had a lack of material…I guess it wasn’t a joke. 🙁 #MissingMinologueAndThemeSong
That may be it. Those who watched Monday’s monologue noticed that it contained more “late night jokes” than usual, too. We’ll be watching Wednesday to see if Craig gets back to his usual routine. Although, he may have done a monologue and pulled a Jedi mind trick to make us forget, as the RSA’s @bgrhubarb speculates:
Perhaps the monologue was all about mind control, and we’ve just been programmed to forget it. #MissingMonologue
Is Beaded Curtain a Thing?
If it wasn’t, it is now. Craig and Geoff’s conversation about beaded curtains got the RSA’s @doxieone1 inspired to come up with a fun poster.
Pitts Endorses UFO Book
Astronomer Derrick Pitts, an occasional guest on the Late Late Show has endorsed a book about UFO’s, saying scientists should be able to examine the issue “…without all the stigma involved.” The website OpenMinds.net details the books and its upcoming paperback release.
Tonight’s Guests
Wednesday on the Late Late Show, Craig welcomes actress Mary Louise Parker and comedian Dom Irrera. CBS tweeted:
Mary-Louise Parker explains the source of her hickey and laughs from Dom Irrera on #LateLateShow with @CraigyFerg at 12:37am on #CBS 2nite!
Thursday, watch for actor Henry Winkler and astronaut Mike Massimino.
