The Storms Can Stop Any Time
More tornadic activity was reported in the country’s midsection today, including Missouri, Illinois and Indiana, although from what we have heard the damage was thankfully less than in recent days.  The work of rebuilding places like El Reno, Oklahoma and  Joplin, Missouri is just beginning, however.  More than five hundred people have died in storms across the United States this spring and thousands more are without homes, so your continued support is needed.  You can donate to the Red Cross on their website or by texting REDCROSS to 90999 to make an instant $10 donation.

Tonight’s Guests
Wednesday’s Late Late Show includes the silly and the serious…  Craig talks with actor/comedian Norm MacDonald, National Public Radio foreign correspondent Julie McCarthy and music by singer Oh Land. Thursday, watch for actor/producer Seth Green and magician Lance Burton.

Added to the future guest list are Carla Gugino, Kevin Bacon and Wendy Williams.  See the most complete guest listings any time on our Guests page.

More Tornado Activity

It was Kansas, North Texas and Oklahoma’s turn during the day Tuesday for strong storms and deadly tornadoes.  We’re seeing Twitter buzzing with reports from RSA members who live in the area and more storms are expected across the region, including the Joplin, Missouri area, where another tornado warning was posted Tuesday evening.  The aerial photographs of damage in Joplin are astounding, as seen in The Atlantic.  President Obama is expected to survey the damage upon his return from Europe this weekend and some storms are expected Wednesday in the middle part of the country.  Donations to the Red Cross help those in need, on their website or by texting REDCROSS to 90999 to make an instant $10 donation.

Jackson Coverage
Quinton “Rampage” Jackson‘s appearance on Monday’s Late Late Show was the most talked about news on websites than focus on UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) and MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) personalities, including MMATorch.com, 5thRound.com and SBNation.com.

Bridger the Fashion Plate?
It sounds like Craig’s assistant Rebecca Tucker was giving production assistant Bridger Winegar a hard time on Tuesday.  She tweeted:

I apologize for the high fashion hell i’ve put you through today.

And Bridger responded:

Fortunately, my Kohls-furnished wardrobe allowed me to complete the task with ease, comfort and style.

We’re not sure what it means but it sounds like fun!

Joplin Tornado

AP

The devastating tornado that struck Joplin, Missouri passed just south of the RSA’s @ScottishConan, who reports on her Twitter feed that a co-worker and his wife were among the more than one hundred people who died in the storm.  We reached her on Twitter on Monday and she asked that “…people keep the city and its people in their thoughts. A lot of people are hurting right now. Donations needed” and she added that the RSA is “…an amazing group of people to be a part of.” We are sending our thoughts and prayers to her and to all of the people impacted by this and the other storms that have ravaged the country this spring.  You can help those affected by making a donation to the Red Cross on their website or by texting REDCROSS to 90999 to make an instant $10 donation.

Fry in Hobbit
The lovely Stephen Fry will be in the film The Hobbit, according to Variety.com. If the Variety site comes up with a “you must sign up” screen, you can read the article here instead:

[stextbox id=”custom” caption=”Fry in Hobbit”]Stephen Fry joins ‘Hobbit’
Thesp, Jackson to make ‘Dambusters’
By Dave McNary, Variety.com

Producer-director Peter Jackson’s tapped British thesp Stephen Fry to play the role of Master of Laketown in “The Hobbit.”

Jackson made the announcement Thursday on his Facebook page.

“I’ve known Stephen for several years, and we’re developing a ‘Dambusters’ movie together,” Jackson said. “In addition to his writing skills, he’s a terrific actor and will create a very memorable Master for us.”

Fry’s involvement with “Dambusters,” a WWII actioner produced through Jackson’s WingNut Films, hadn’t been announced previously. Project’s been in development since 2006 and is based on the 1943 Allied air raid on three German dams essential to the Nazi steel industry.

Fry will be seen in December in “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows” in role of Mycroft Holmes.

Jackson also disclosed that the Master’s conniving civil servant Alfrid will be played by Ryan Gage and that Conan Stevens will be playing an Orc called Azog.

Jackson began shooting the two films in New Zealand in 3D in mid-March. “Hobbit” cast includes Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins and Andy Serkis, Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen and Cate Blanchett reprising their roles from “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy.

J.R.R. Tolkien novel is set 60 years before “Lord of the Rings,” with Bilbo the unassuming Hobbit who becomes a hero by obtaining a powerful ring in the face of challenges by the wicked Gollum and a dragon named Smaug.

New Line parent Warner Bros. reached a deal in January to handle worldwide distribution on “The Hobbit,” taking over most international distribution and homevideo on the two films from MGM in exchange for funding MGM’s half of the production costs. The “Hobbit” pics are aimed for release in late 2012 and late 2013.[/stextbox]

This Week’s Guests
Join Craig for all-new episodes of the Late Late Show this week, starting Monday with actor Jack Black and UFC Fighter/Actor Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.  Tuesday, you’ll see the class of actress Courtney Cox and the chaos of comedian Carrot Top.  Wednesday, Craig welcomes actor/Comedian Norm MacDonald and National Public Radio foreign correspondent Julie McCarthy.  Actor/Producer Seth Green and magician Lance Burton are in the studio on Thursday.  And on Friday, it’s actor/TV host Drew Carey.

Call for Ideas and Submissions: The Late Late Show will be on hiatus June 13-24. With no new shows during that time and no live tour going on, news around the volcano will be slow and we’re looking for ideas. What would you like to hear? Are there stories you’d like to know more about? Are there things we haven’t covered that you’d like to see? Do you have experiences going to see Craig in the studio, at a live performance, at a book signing or other event that you’d like to share with the rest of the RSA? Stories? Pictures? Videos? We’re looking for your ideas. Please use our Contact Us form if you have a detailed idea or just send us a message on Twitter @RSA_News.  This news service exists because of you, the fans of Craig Ferguson and the Late Late Show.  Thank you!

Geoff Goes Viral
The voice of Geoff Petersen, Josh Robert Thompson tweeted:

Thanks to all of you, my gay robot has gone viral. Yes, that’s code. @GeoffTheRobot #LLS #RSA

We’re guessing that means we’ll be seeing more live Geoff in the future.  And if Thursday’s gigglefest is any indication, the futures looks bright.

Fox Strikes Again
The RSA’s @SandraMG‘s YouTube channel (n39smm), which had a number of Craig videos, has been shut down by a Fox complaint to YouTube over some clips of Glee.  However, to the relief of Craig fans, she is rebuilding a new channel which you can find here.  Shh!

A Horse Of Course
The RSA’s @HoboRobot spotted some tweets Saturday from a production of the play War Horse at the New London Theatre in the UK.  The play features puppets of horses in the lead roles.  There was apparently a small fire backstage Saturday afternoon, sending the cast and crew into the street.  No one was hurt and a member of the cast tweeted that the show continued as scheduled, featuring the lead horse named “Joey“.  Afterward @HoboRobot tweeted:

We’re all happy Joey’s ok; @CFsecretariat @Secretariat_LA  The @RSA_News supports horse puppet safety.

We do.  We hope Joey is doing well, and that Secretariat had fun watching Preakness Stakes on Saturday where he saw Animal Kingdom come second, so there will be no triple crown winner this year.

Rapture Wrap-Up
No rapture was apparent on Saturday but Carrie Fisher tweeted some advice, just in case:

Rapture is nigh- roll a fatty & save the grass & whales #BYOB bring your own bible @alderaanplaces @CraigyFerg @mrosenbaum711 @stephenfry

Thank the Armed Forces and Your Waiter/Waitress
Saturday, May 21st is Armed Forces Day, National Waitstaff Day and is the anniversary of the American Red Cross.  With all of the tornado and flood damage across the southeastern US, it might be a good day to make a donation at RedCross.org to celebrate.  Sunday, May 22nd is National Maritime Day, the UN International Day for Biological Diversity and the birthday of actor Laurence Olivier.  Also, Monday is Victoria Day in Canada.  We hope our many Canadian readers are enjoying a three-day weekend!
