Craig Loves Paris and Paris Loves Craig
What an amazing week it has been! Consider this scenario if someone put it on your desk at work:

  • Move a network television late night show 5661 miles for a week.
  • Scout out locations, indoors and outdoors to interview guests, read tweetmails, do monologues and comedy sketches.
  • Book a week’s worth of guests to meet you… somewhere in the city.
  • Bring along not only the host but a robot skeleton sidekick and his voice/operator, a pantomime horse, a rabbit puppet, a snake mug, a miniature red-white-and blue Eiffel Tower, a glittery ball, a TARDIS and some kangaroo bits.
  • Make sure the host is dressed impeccably throughout.
  • Provide him with a full remote production crew with cameras, microphones and lighting where needed, plus production and personal assistants, a publicist and at least a couple of people to chat up the Paris police while crowds gather and segments get recorded.  And coffee.  Lots of coffee.
  • Oh… and make sure the host has everything he needs to be as creative, funny and innovative as he is at home yet takes advantage of everything possible in one of the world’s most picturesque cities under the pressure of a tight schedule… on a budget. Go!

Late Late Show Producer Michael Naidus and the entire LLS team deserve a huge round of applause from Craig’s fans for pulling off an incredible week. When these five episodes of the show are edited together and reach our television screens the first week of August, they can be proud of their accomplishment. When the credits roll at the end of the show, think of all of the people who have worked so hard to bring us five hours of entertainment all the way from Paris… and what it took to make it happen.

Time for the Times
Note: Spolers! The New York Times had a nice article about Craig’s sojourn in la Belle France along with a slideshow. The article does contain some spoilers about what Craig was taping on Tuesday, so read at your own risk.

McHale’s Navy Pier?
The Soup host, comedian and Late Late Show guest Joel McHale performed at the Chicago Theatre Friday night.

Tonight’s Guests
Friday on the Late Late Show, it’s an encore presentation of the May 6th episode with actor Will Ferrell and comedian Reese Waters .

The re-run fairy continues her stay next week as you can see our on Guests page.  New episodes resume on June 27th and the France episodes are scheduled to air August 1st-5th.

Craig To Host Game Show?
In an exclusive report, The Hollywood Reporter says Craig Ferguson is close to a deal to executive produce and host a game show on CBS!  If the deal goes through, the show would be taped over the summer and could air as soon as this fall.  Actors/producers Courtney Cox and David Arquette are behind the project, called Identity Crisis.  Thanks to the RSA’s @SecretNakedHobo for being the first to spot this big story!  If the deal goes through, we’ll have a whole new Craig show to follow!

Craig’s Paris Adventure Continues
Craig spent part of the day at the Tuileries Garden, located between the Louvre Museum and the Place de la Concorde. We earlier had reported that the crew was in an area near the museum but were sharply corrected that the Garden itself is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and worthy of recognition on its own.  We agree.  With Craig at the Garden was Secretariat, seen briefly in the video captured by the RSA’s @003lili we posted earlier.  Craig also tweeted a fun picture, probably from Wednesday’s taping:

http://yfrog.com/h0zzfqfj With some friends at Moulin Rouge in Paris.

Here are some of the day’s best pictures:

The RSA’s @spongybob2 captured some of the days events at the Garden, including Craig racing toy boats in a pond with Jean-Michel Cousteau, whom we can probably anticipate will be a guest on the Paris shows when they air on CBS in August.  Leave it to Craig to go exploring the water with an expert!

Meanwhile, a friend of spongybob2, the RSA’s @spongypotato captured events at the the Pont des Arts, the famous pedestrian bridge over the Seine, where Craig and company taped some segments during the day on Thursday.

There is no word on where Craig will be on Friday but judging by the crowds that manage to find him wherever he goes, finding an audience should be easy.  We’ll get you caught up later in the day on Friday as taping for the show finishes up for the week.

Doing Fun Work
Getting the chance to work in Paris, Josh Robert Thompson decided to enjoy the moment:

“Life’s like a movie, write your own ending. Keep believing, keep pretending.” #jimhenson // Doing the show in Paris with @craigyferg. Easily the most rewarding day of my career thus far.

Kind Words for Craig
The website HollywoodToday.com delves into the world of late night comedy and has good things to say about Craig.

Tonight’s Guests
Thursday on the Late Late Show, enjoy Craig’s conversations with actress Diane Lane and actress Karen Gillan, first broadcast on April 22nd.  And on Friday, actor Will Ferrell and comedian Reese Waters‘ appearance from May 6th.

Update: Secretariat and Craig Spotted Near the Louvre
After several Euroskellies spent the day searching for Craig and company, the RSA’s @003lili found Secretariat in the Tuileries Garden near the Louvre Thursday afternoon, and later found Craig nearby.  In the video clip, you can see Secretariat running by, being chased by someone or something… we’re not quite sure.

@003lili Managed to get a picture with Craig as taping wrapped up for the day. We have not seen any other pictures or heard about any other taping around the city today, so if any of our Euroskellies have seen or heard anything, please let us know by using our Contact page or by tweeting us @RSA_News.

A Big Day in Paris
Craig Ferguson was spotted all over Paris on Wednesday, taping segments for upcoming episodes of the Late Late Show.  Craig was at the Eiffel tower in the morning, where he did some work on camera by himself, with Geoff Petersen, Kristin Bell and Sid the cussy bunny.  From there, the crew moved to the famous Moulin Rouge, where Craig recorded some segments inside and a monologue outside.

We’ve collected some of the day’s best photos from Craig fans @simonhuet, @MissGraoully and @ericphilippona; Craig’s assistant Rebecca Tucker, the French production company taping the shows and CBS during the day.

Craig and company wrapped up the day with more taping planned for tomorrow.  Photo: @MissGraoully

Craig’s tweet of the day was the picture of him along with Geoff at the Eiffel Tower:

http://yfrog.com/gz9nzqkj In Paris with my buddy.

Geoff’s builder, Grant Imahara from the Mythbusters saw Craig’s photo with Geoff and replied:

So proud. //  @CraigyFerg Does @GeoffTheRobot have a passport or um, a carnet?

The public was not allowed inside the Moulin Rouge during the taping, so we are grateful to Zs2 Media Group for sending a picture of the action on stage, where fully-clothed ladies danced the can-can.  We can’t-can’t wait to see that when the shows air on CBS August 1st-5th.

Fan Stories
[stextbox id=”custom”]The RSA’s @MissGraoully tells us that Kristen Bell was at the Moulin Rouge along with Craig.  She says that even though no “flash mob” audiences have been asked for, wherever Craig goes, a crowd has been following.[/stextbox]

[stextbox id=”custom”]The RSA’s @ericphilippona says says he spotted Craig and Kristen coming out of the employee entrance of the Eiffel tower… and thinks they were taping in the restaurant on the first floor. When they met, Craig signed his book and said they had already been taping a lot of material. The French crew told Eric they had been shooting for a couple of days from the bus and at some indoor locations. Craig also said he had been having trouble getting his phone to work and that they may not be calling for any “flash mobs” after all.  At the Moulin Rouge, he saw Craig doing a monologue and recording what seemed to be short teases to promote the upcoming shows.[/stextbox]

Craig will likely be taping throughout the day on Thursday and we’ll do our best to keep up. Our posts have been made so much better this week thanks to the efforts of Craig’s fans who post pictures and stories about anything they’ve seen in Paris.  To send us information, please tweet us @RSA_News or use our Contact page to send longer details. We are grateful to everyone who is contributing and giving the rest of the RSA a sneak peek of the shows to come!

Getting in the Parisian Spirit
[stextbox id=”custom”]The RSA’s @chosenmert is feeling the vibe of a summer moment in Paris. She wrote a few lines of prose with Craig in mind:

[stb id=”custom” caption=”To Craig in Paris” bgcolor=”FFFFFF”]
It is morning, or perhaps it is evening. The colors of the sky are performing their changing of the guard. You are seated at a bistro table, alone with a book, or perhaps with someone you love. Across the way, seated at another table, do you see her? A dark-eyed girl is writing in a notebook. Or perhaps she is sketching a picture of this lovely Paris sky. You glance her way; she raises her head. Your eyes meet, for just a moment, And you share a smile. That quiet, dark-eyed girl, having her tea and porridge, is us. We are with you, cher pitre, cher ami. In spirit, we sit and share this golden moment with you. We, your friend unmet, cher prince, le renard that you have tamed…We will not disturb you. The glance and smile were enough. You’re in our hearts, and we wish you well.

Joss Stone Scare
Authorities say singer Joss Stone may have been targeted for harm by two men, now under arrest.   PopCrush.com reports on the story and mentions that Stone has been scheduled to appear on the Late Late Show in mid-July.

Tonight’s Guests
Wednesday on the Late Late Show, it’s the April 21st episode with actor Alfred Molina and comedian Joe DeVito .  Thursday will feature rebroadcast of the April 22nd show with actress Diane Lane and actress Karen Gillan. The folks @BBCAmerica tweeted:

If you missed Karen Gillan’s appearance on The Late Late Show w/ @CraigyFerg. @CBS will air it again on June 16!

Taping Wraps Up for Wednesday
The RSA’s @simonhuet tells us that it appears taping has wrapped up for the day at the Moulin Rouge and he sent along a wonderful photo of Craig Ferguson working out front. It appears that much of the day’s taping was done inside the famed club but we’re told that Craig did a monologue outside.

The French production company working with Craig sent along a photo from inside the club where the fully clothed ladies danced the can-can.  From what we’ve heard, the public was not allowed inside, so our thanks to them for giving us a look at what happened.

And the RSA’s @MissGraoully sent a picture of Craig doing his monologue.  She said Kristen Bell was at the club as well.  No requests for “flash mob” audiences have been made but from what we can tell, wherever Craig goes, a crowd has been following.  She tells us that they may only be tweeting for an audience on Friday, so we’ll keep you posted.

Craig himself posted a photo on Wednesday afternoon from earlier in the day:

http://yfrog.com/gz9nzqkj In Paris with my buddy.

And the folks at CBS sent along a picture Geoff, modeling in front of the Eiffel Tower.

We’ll have a wrap up of the day’s events at our usual time this evening and we encourage any Craig fans who have pictures and stories about anything they’ve seen in Paris so far this week to tweet us @RSA_News or use our Contact page to send longer details. We are grateful to everyone who is contributing and giving the rest of the robot skeleton army a chance to share in the excitement!

Taping at the Tower Earlier Wednesday
Some taping for the Late Late Show got underway in France on Wednesday morning!  The production company helping Craig and company sent a picture Wednesday morning, showing Craig at work taping a segment for the show near the Eiffel Tower.

The RSA’s @MissGraoully sent us a picture of Craig and Sid at work on the lawn near the tower.

Also sending pictures from Paris Wednesday morning was Craig’s assistant, Rebecca Tucker who tweeted:

Hanging around paris http://twitpic.com/5brok8

Hanging around are Craig’s well-traveled kangaroo bits, near the Eiffel tower! What a great way to spend the day.

Rebecca sent another photo, this one of a great Craig ad on a bus.

Our sweet ride http://twitpic.com/5bswa1

Looks like Craig is getting some nice publicity for his week in Paris.

The RSA’s @ericphilippona tells us he saw Craig and Kristen Bell at the Eiffel Tower… and learned that Craig’s Twitter has not been working and that they have been doing much of the taping indoors.  Of course, we hope to continue to see more pictures and hear from our Euroskellies in the area who might have stories to tell about what they’re seeing.  Thanks to all for your help!

No Word From the Chief on Tuesday
As dusk fell on Paris Tuesday evening, there was nary a sign of our fearless leader.  Euroskellies stalked the streets for a second day, searching for any sign that the Late Late Show is taping something, somewhere.  But in the two days Craig and Company have been in Paris, it had been quiet.  Last week on the show, Craig mentioned that since the show would not be based in a single studio or theater while in France,  he would be tweeting taping locations and inviting a “flash mob” to show up to be his audience.  But since leaving Russia, neither he nor his team tweeted until Wednesday morning.  If any taping has been going on prior to then, it had been without an audience…  perhaps of opening segments, comedy sketches and maybe even some interviews.

Oliver Giraud

Information has come in dribs and drabs.  A French production company quietly mentioned Tuesday that they would soon be working on a shoot with Craig… but did not say where or when.   The RSA’s @ericphilippona notice that French comedian Olivier Giraud said recently on his Facebook page that has been booked as guest for the show sometime this week.  Craig said on the show last week that French actor Jean Reno had been booked to appear during the week.

Charlie Higson

And on Tuesday another hint appeared, this time in tweets of British comedian and writer Charlie Higson.   You may remember that not long ago, Craig effectively booked Charlie to appear on the show in a Twitter conversation.  On Tuesday, Charlie tweeted:

Popped over to Paris for lunch. Very civilised. Slightly pissed.

Perhaps after lunch, Charlie was able to record a segment with his old friend and writing partner Craig Ferguson… we may have to wait until August to know for sure.

It’s hard to say why there had been no tweets Monday or Tuesday, although it may have been something as simple as the budget.  Every day the show has to rent a production company to shoot video in the field costs money… so although they are in Paris for the “week” to do the show, they may try to keep actual shooting days to a minimum… shooting two shows a day Wednesday and Thursday and one on Friday… or something similar… to keep costs low.  In any case, we’re keeping an eye on what’s happening and at the end of the day, we’ll update you here.  Thanks again to our European robot skeletons and their tweet-stalking counterparts back home for their help in collecting news about the show this week!

A Craig Primer
The Morton Report had a story Tuesday talking briefly about Craig’s trip to Paris and backgrounding readers on why Craig has found success in late night television.

Blast From The Past
The RSA’s esteemed General @Malinky2Stoatir is digging through the vaults and putting up some rewinds of great past episodes to help fans through the next two weeks of re-runs.  Check out Mal’s channel for some fun Late Late Shows from the past such as this show ending from June of 2009, where Craig talks about the speed of ostriches and the mocking of French Canadian circus performers:

Tonight’s Guests
Tuesday on the Late Late Show, watch for the April 18th show with actress Tina Fey and music by Everest .  Wednesday’s show will be from April 21st, with actor Alfred Molina and comedian Joe DeVito .

Update: All Quiet So Far Tuesday
We’ve been keeping our eyes peeled on the interwebs and our legion of spies in and around Paris have been searching high and low but so far, there have been no sightings of Craig Ferguson taping anything for a show in the past 24 hours. Although he had said he would tweet about when and where audiences could see him in action, Craig has not tweeted since Sunday afternoon in Russia and the rest of his team seems to be maintaining radio silence as well. We are still assuming that because of the short time frame and the cost of keeping a video crew on call, there must be at least some taping going on… perhaps of opening segments, comedy sketches and maybe even some interviews… but there have been no calls for audiences as yet.  We’ve heard a few hints about possible guests, including the one Craig mentioned on the show last week, French actor Jean Reno.  There is also British comedian and writer Charlie Higson, who recently exchanged tweets with Craig about getting booked on the show and who tweeted on Tuesday:

Popped over to Paris for lunch. Very civilised. Slightly pissed.

Could that lunch have included an interview with his old friend and writing partner Craig Ferguson?  We may have to wait until August to know for sure.  Finally, the RSA’s @ericphilippona tells us the French comedian Olivier Giraud has said on his Facebook page that he will be a guest later this week.  As always, if you see Craig or hear about what’s happening in Paris, please tweet us and we’ll pass it along!   Bonsoir!

ooo

City of Lights Welcomes Craig
Craig Ferguson is in Paris to tape a week of episodes of the Late Late Show, renamed appropriately, Le Late Late Show avec Craig Ferguson.  We still have not seen a list of guests, apart from those Craig has mentioned so far:  French actor Jean Reno and Craig’s two sidekicks for the trip, Kristen Bell and Geoff Petersen.  Craig is expected to tweet the location of  tapings and ask a “flash mob” of fans to join him and create an instant audience.  As of late Monday evening, we have seen no tweets from Craig… so it is possible that there were no audience-related segments taped on Monday.  There are sure to be some comedy segments and other elements where an audience is not required, so the crew may well be working under the radar.  We’ll continue to watch for any news of tapings and locations.  In the meantime, things seem to be going well.  Craig’s assistant Rebecca Tucker tweeted:

Friends in France are treating us very, very well. I think I could get used to this.

Craig on Arthur’s Show
One of the possible reasons we haven’t heard of any LLS tapings so far is that Craig was busy Monday afternoon in Paris, appearing as a guest on Jaques “Arthur” Essbag‘s talk show. One of our readers posted a picture from the set in our comments section and there are more pictures here and here. We’re hoping to hear more from them about their experience.  Arthur’s show is off the air for the summer but is due to resume in September, so the segment will be held until then.  Because Arthur’s people have been diligent in keeping his show off of YouTube, it may be difficult for skellies outside of France to see the show but we’ll keep our eyes peeled.

French Media Coverage
Craig’s appearance on Arthur’s show was not widely known but French websites have been talking about Craig’s visit to Paris since January.  On the site Premiere.fr, in the original article and the awful Google translation, they talk about how Craig will be in the city this week and that it would create another opportunity to meet with Arthur.  And on PurePeople.com, the original article and even worse Google translation talks about how Arthur is a big sports fan and that he would get along with Craig.  Our thanks to the RSA’s @Regan_Henry for helping us better understand those articles.  We appreciate our Francophone skellies for giving us a hand this week!

Country Music Fans
Craig was among the notables congratulating the Country Music Association on the 40th anniversary of its festival.  AngryCountry.com reports that Craig gave a pre-recorded message on the festival’s opening night last Thursday.

Joel McHale in Chicago
Frequent Late Late Show guest, television host and comedian Joel McHale will be performing in Chicago on Friday at the Chicago Theatre. Tickets are still available for the 7:30pm show.

Tonight’s Guests
While Craig and Company are working in France, the re-run fairy is keeping the home fires buring on CBS.  Monday on the Late Late Show, we’ll see an encore of the April 14th episode featuring actress Kristen Bell and country singer Jason Aldean .  On Tuesday, it’s the April 18th show with actress Tina Fey and music by Everest .

UPDATE: Craig on Arthur’s Show
Craig was busy Monday afternoon in Paris, appearing as a guest on Jaques “Arthur” Essbag‘s talk show. One of our readers posted a picture from the set in our comments section. We’re hoping to hear more from them about their experience. Since Craig was taping Arthur’s show in the afternoon, it’s uncertain if he’ll be taping anything for the LLS today. No word yet on where but we’ll update you as soon as we hear about it.

ooo

Craig Headed to Paris
After a few day unwinding in picturesque St. Petersburg, Russia, Craig Ferguson is making his way to Paris for a week of tapings of the Late Late Show.  The Russian trip wasn’t just for a vacation, though… it turns out there was a bit of business as well.  We’re not sure what the “gig” was… perhaps a stand up show for corporate client… but it looks like it was a nice place to work.  Craig tweeted on Sunday:

http://yfrog.com/keufhtj Tonights [Sunday’s] gig.

Craig also sent another sightseeing picture of a park, with a keen observation and a clarification:

http://yfrog.com/kfj1tj Yup. The soviet thing is definitely over. // To those who asked. I’m still in Russia. Headed to Paris tomorrow [Monday] to start LLS avec me & @IMKristenBell & @GeoffTheRobot.

We’re looking forward to some fun this week.  Remember, France is six hours ahead of the east coast of the US and nine hours ahead of Los Angeles, so “afternoon” tapings of the show in Paris will be in the morning hours in the US.  When Craig tweets his locations each day, we’ll pass them along.  We still have not seen any indication of guests for the shows in France other than French actor Jean Reno, whom Craig mentioned in passing on the show last week.  We’ll let you know when we hear about more.  And along with monologues and guests, we’ll see plenty of dueling sidekicks Kristen Bell and Geoff Petersen when the shows air in August.

The Left Bank Life
Craig’s assistant, Rebecca Tucker is amused by the small size of French hotel beds:

craig’s wardrobe box is actually bigger than my hotel bed. http://twitpic.com/5arorq

Meanwhile, she is doing her best to get settled in:

Craig Interview
For those who enjoyed the BBC radio interview of Craig in our most recent post, the RSA’s @Fergufool has an archive copy available by clicking here.  She says she also has an interview from that show of Lynn Ferguson and although it is not posted, you may contact her directly if you are keen to hear it.

This Week’s Guests
The re-run fairy is in town for the next two weeks, beginning Monday with the April 14th episode featuring actress Kristen Bell and country singer Jason Aldean .  On Tuesday, we’ll see the April 18th show with actress Tina Fey and music by Everest .  Wednesday’s show will be from April 21st, with actor Alfred Molina and comedian Joe DeVito .  Actress Diane Lane and actress Karen Gillan‘s appearances on the show from April 22nd are scheduled for Thursday.  And Friday’s encore will be from May 6th, with actor Will Ferrell and comedian Reese Waters .

Relaxing in Russia
For the man who truly wants to get away from it all, Craig Ferguson has found a peaceful place in St. Petersburg, Russia.  He’s been tweeting during his short vacation, sending words and pictures back.  Today he tweeted:

Having breakfast at a cafe on Nevskiy Prospekt on a beautiful day in St Petersburg. I’m reading @neilhimself‘s Anansi Boys. #ahthatsbetter // http://yfrog.com/khy2ubj For those of you who requested a visual aid.

What Craig is Reading
The book Craig is reading is Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman, who will be on the Late Late Show when Craig returns to Los Angeles.  Craig’s production company recently optioned the film rights to Gaiman’s mystery novels.

On Monday, Craig will be heading to France for a week of tapings of the Late Late Show. The show’s crew is already gathering in Paris. Rather than working from a television studio or even a theater, the show will be taped in various locations around the city. Craig will tweet the location and ask for a “flash mob” crowd to assemble and be the show’s audience for that day. We’ll keep you posted on the locations he tweets.

Craig’s Shark Week
What’s that?  You want to own Craig’s episodes of Shark Week from last summer on the Discovery Channel?  How about this… you can now pre-order your very own copy on DVD or Blu-Ray.  It was the highest-rated Shark Week in Discovery Channel’s history.  Find out why!

Craig Talks About The Odd Couple
On BBC Radio Scotland, Saturday’s episode of Comedy Zone includes a chapter (Chapter 3) with Craig, who was interviewed back in 1994 about his work on stage as Oscar Madison in The Odd Couple.  The interview runs nearly 23 minutes and includes some of Craig’s philosophy of his comedy, prior to becoming the host of the Late Late Show.  As with many BBC Radio programs, the show will only be online for a few days.  Thanks to the RSA’s @bgrhubarb for spotting the link.

Celebrating the Day
Saturday, June 11th is King Kamehameha I Day in Hawaii and is the birthday of composer Richard Strauss and marine explorer Jacques Cousteau.  Sunday, June 12th is Independence Day in the Philippines, Race Unity Day, Abused Women and Children’s Awareness Day, and the birthdays of former President George H.W. Bush and Anne Frank.
