Cutest Honorary Gay
Fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi sent out a tweet this week asking:

Who is the cutest gay? A. @BravoAndy. B. @neilpatrickharris C. @rickymartin D. Suggestions please.

Lots of people responded with suggestions, including the RSA’s @Colleen_Byrne, who tweeted:

You of course, Tim Gunn & @CraigyFerg honorable mention for cutest straight gay. 😉 RT @IsaacMizrahi: Who is the cutest gay?

When Mizrahi announced the winner, Bravo network personality Andy Cohen, he also took Colleen’s suggestion:

@bravoandy won the cutest gay contest. But I forgot about @cheyenne jackson + @ellendigeneris + @craigyferg (honorary gay)

It’s an honor we think Craig would be proud of.

JRT Podcast
The voice of Geoff Peterson, Josh Robert Thompson has been hinting at launching a new project for 2012 and it has arrived. He announced a new podcast on his Twitter feed:

One more gift under the tree–the JRT PODCAST is finally HERE. Featuring my good pal John Mariano! http://jrtvoices.com/ #RSA #JRTpodcast

The Early Days
After Craig had been doing the Late Late Show for a few months, David Bianculli and the New York Daily News did a follow-up story to see how the new host was doing in April of 2005.

Five Questions
Craig made a couple of appearances as a guest on the Late Late Show when it was hosted by Craig Kilborn. He played the “five questions” game both times. Here is one of those games. We’ll show the other tomorrow.

Show Gets High Marks
The folks at 411mania.com have named the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson to their Top Ten nonfiction shows of the year.  They’ve also promised more about Geoff Peterson in their next column.  In particular, they cite Craig’s skill as an interviewer.  A perfect example is his interview with Carey Mulligan which airs Tuesday night.  Rather than talking about the film she’s currently promoting or the craft of acting, he asks her about eating pizza, traveling and getting fired from a waitressing job… all of which are much more interesting.

Craig Gets the LLS Gig
When Craig Ferguson got the job as host of the Late Late Show, he made a trip to appear on David Letterman’s show the week before starting the run.  The New York Daily News reported on where Craig had been and where he hoped to go.

Beond the Footage
After showing us an unusual piece of news video, Craig wonders what happened after the cameras left:

Good Stuff on TV

Southern Colorado’s Daily Chieftain has an article about some of the great programs on television and includes Craig as a reason to stay up a little bit later at night.

Craig’s Start on the LLS
Seven years ago this month, one of the big stories buzzing in the TV world was about who was going to take over for Craig Kilborn as the new host of the Late Late Show.  All this week, we’ll take you back to that time, with news articles written in 2004 and 2005.  The first is from TV critic David Bianculli in the New York Daily News, who predicted that his choice would get the gig.

Elvis Audition
In our most recent post, we showed you Craig’s take on being a talent show judge. This time, it’s Craig who is the contestant being judged, auditioning as Elvis:

Monday on the Late Late Show, it’s the September 30th show with actor Seth Rogen and actress Judy Greer.  Tuesday, it’s an encore presentation of the October 18th show with actress Carey Mulligan and comedienne Paula Poundstone.

Christmas Spirit

Craig Ferguson knows how to celebrate a holiday, as he demonstrated by tweeting out a fun picture on Christmas Day. Is it as the RSA’s @PattiLCook wonders, a deranged Scottish version of Santa Claus? As the RSA’s @pussindasboot thinks, is it a Fat Bastard suit? Or is it as the RSA’s @HMSFox suggests, an inflatable sumo suit Highlander style? The world may never know but it sure looks cool!

Chit Chat Cafe
In keeping with today’s family theme, Craig’s mother-in-law, author Linda Cunningham was interviewed on a podcast called The Chit Chat Cafe – Live After Dark. The RSA’s @bgrhubarb found the link. The podcast airs live Thursday nights.

What did You get for Christmas?
We hope you gave and received some nice gifts for the holidays. Here’s a look back at one of Craig’s favorite gifts from one of his late-night competitors:

‘Twas the night before Christmas,
when through the volcano
Not a skelly was stirring,
not even in Fresno.
The stockings were hung
by the podium with care,
In hopes that Craig Ferguson
soon would be there.
The hobos were nestled
all snug in their seats,
with visions of chicken
and other free meats.
And Josh in the background
and Geoff in his cap,
Had just settled down
for a long unplugged nap.

When somewhere backstage
there arose such a clatter,
Geoff strained from his outlet
to see what was the matter.
Away to the stage door
he flew like a flash,
He pulled back the curtain
and twirled his mustache.
The lights on the backdrop
were dimmed, even so,
Gave a lustre of purple
to L.A. below.
When what to Geoffs glowing
blue eyes were met,
But a red convertible
pulled by Secretariat!

With a big Scottish driver,
striped socks on his leg,
Geoff knew in a moment
it could only be Craig.
More rapid than beagles
the emails they came,
As he blew his mouth organ
and called them by name.
“Now flamingo, now pelican,
now sparrow, hey cutesy!
On goose, on gosling,
on tit and (tutsi-fruitsi)!
To the top of the basement,
to the top of the set!
Now tweet away, tweet away
and don’t hit the desk!”

As old emails that before
the wild hurricane fly,
When met with Michael’s deadline,
they blow right on by.
So down to the floor
the emails they flew,
with the convertible full of candy
and Craig Ferguson too.
And then in a twinkling,
Geoff heard on the air
The commercials for boner pills
and Sham-wows so fair.
As Geoff drew in his head
and was turning around,
Down the stairs good Craig Ferguson
came with a bound.

He was dressed in a suit,
Bob Barker’s old one,
His hair was a mess
and his tie was undone.
A bundle of candy
he had flung on his back,
and he looked like a sweaty warm-up comedian,
just opening his pack.
His glittery ball, how it twinkled!
His kangaroo balls how merry!
His TARDIS is blue
and he likes his vampires scary!
His tiny little mouth
was drawn up like a bow,
And it seemed he was ready
to put on a show.

He looked at the camera
as if he were Regis,
And rolled his eyes at the the thought
of an overcooked haggis.
He had a broad face
and a round little belly,
That shook when he laughed
like Liza Minnelli.
He was chubby and plump,
like he just came from a party.
And Geoff laughed when he asked,
“Do we have a picture of Paul McCartney?”
A wink of his eye
and a glass-tinging sound,
Soon gave Geoff to know
he was coming around.

Craig spoke nae a word,
but went straight to his work,
Handed out chicken,
then turned with a smirk,
And tapping the camera
with a touch of his hand,
And giving a nod,
out the stage door he ran.
He sprang to his car,
to Secretariat gave a whistle,
And they flew like the down
of a wee Scottish thistle.
But Geoff heard him exclaim
as he blew his harmonica,
“Merry Christmas to you,
it’s a great day for America!”
