We’re Doin’ Fine, Thackerville
The first leg of Craig Ferguson‘s 2012 Live Comedy Tour rolled through Wichita, Kansas on Friday and wraps up Saturday night at the Winstar World Casino in Thackerville, Oklahoma. Before leaving Des Moines on Thursday night, Craig stopped for a bite at an Iowa barbecue hot spot:

Just had dinner @ Jethro’s in Des Moines. Spectaular. If you’re in Iowa have some hot meat there. Also some food. #standardjokeformat

Happy Birthday, Ted
January 25th may be Robert Burns‘ birthday but January 26th is Ted Alexandro‘s birthday!  He tweeted on Thursday:

The kind folks at Hoyt Sherman Place (tipped off by @philcottone) gave me the royal birthday treatment! Many thanks!! http://pic.twitter.com/XDt7rlXE

And the backstage treats were just the beginning, because as you can see the photo captured by the RSA’s @bgrhubarb, Craig led the audience in Des Moines in song:

@CraigyFerg just led 1250 people singing happy birthday to me in Des Moines @HoytSherman! Really awesome.

On Friday, Craig tweeted from Kansas:

So far Wichita seems to be a town full of friendly hipsters. Kind of like chilly Austin TX. Once more my preconceived notions are bullshit.

Craig in Des Moines
The RSA”s @bgrhubarb captured some outstanding pictures of Craig on stage and shared them with us:

Haunted Hotel
The RSA’s @VincentWaller72 heard that Craig spent the night in a haunted hotel in Omaha Wednesday night and drew his interpretation of the scene:

Cussy But Funny
The Omaha World-Herald reviewed Craig’s Wednesday show, saying he may cuss a lot but he sure is funny. We can’t argue with that.

Behind the Scenes in Paris
Eurokelly @RudyHellio got some great video behind the scenes during Craig’s week in Paris last June and set them to music. He re-posted them for fans to enjoy:

Cowtown Comedy
Craig Ferguson‘s Live Comedy Tour departed Des Moines on Thursday evening, en route to Wichita, Kansas, for a Friday night show at the Orpheum Theater.  The Wichita Eagle newspaper interviewed Craig as a preview to the show.  The Des Moines Register talked with Craig before Thursday’s show as well.

Meanwhile, Craig is keeping up his daily tweets from the road.  We’re beginning to think he planned this tour just so he could have breakfast at a Cracker Barrel restaurant every morning:

No sleep last night in extremely creepy haunted Hotel Deco in Omaha. Cheered up by visit to Cracker Barrel in Council Bluffs Iowa. #glam

But he also gets to enjoy some of the benefits of a road trip, like checking out the great museums along the way.  We particularly like Craig’s track suit pants as he stands in front of an A7-D Corsair II:

http://twitpic.com/8bzsc8 At the (very cool) Iowa Aviation Museum with @philcottone & @tedalexandro. Thanks for the tour LeeAnne.

Craig’s opening act, comedian Ted Alexandro is sharing pictures along the way as well, this time with Craig in front of the museum’s 1929 Stearman C3-R:

@CraigyFerg with LeeAnne of the Iowa Aviation museum. LeeAnne gave us a lovely tour. pic.twitter.com/3z2TE8Eq

Craig even added a picture from the Des Moines show after stepping off the stage of the Hoyt Sherman Theater:

http://twitpic.com/8c4pya The moment I showed the good people of Des Moines my willie. Thanks for a great night @hoytsherman.

St. Louis Show
The RSA’s @susanh0127 was at Tuesday’s show at the Pageant in St. Louis and sent along these great pictures for the Robot Skeleton Army to enjoy:

Pythons To Appear Together Again
The surviving members of Britain’s famed Monty Python comedy troupe will appear in a film together, reports Yahoo.com via the trade magazine Variety. They caution that while they will be on screen together and it will be directed by Terry Jones, it won’t be a Python-esque film per se, just a funny one.

A Horse at the Door

A California woman riding her horses across California to protest new legislation allowing expanded horse meat exports from the US, tells the website LAist.com that while she’s in LA, she wants to catch a taping of the LLS.

Toby Keith Gets Noms
Frequent Late Late Show guest Toby Keith picked up a three of nominations for this year’s Academy of Country Music Awards, including Video of the Year for “Red Solo Cup,” which features Craig and Geoff Peterson!  His song is also nominated for Single of the Year and his nightclub, Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar and Grill in Minneapolis, Minnesota is nominated to be the ACM’s Nightclub of the Year.  Unfortunately, the video and nightclub awards are handed out off-camera but you can watch to see if Toby picks up the Single award on the ACM telecast April 1st on CBS.  The ACMs even hand out a Best Casino Award, and the WinStar World Casino in Thackerville, Oklahoma is nominated this year.  Craig will be there on Saturday.

If you haven’t seen it, check out “Red Solo Cup” and watch for Craig and Geoff:

Tonight’s Guests
“Le Late Late Show” continues from Paris on Thursday, when Craig and Kristen Bell tour the Palace of Versailles with TV Presenter/French royalty expert Stéphane Berne (from August 4, 2011).  Then on Friday, the look back at Paris wraps up with Craig’s performance at the Moulin Rouge and a chat with shoe designer Christian Louboutin (from August 5, 2011).

Guest Update

Carol Burnett

Added to the upcoming guest list for the Late Late Show are musician Weird Al Yankovic (we know the RSA’s @SariesWick is happy about that), legendary actress Carol Burnett and singer/actress Joss Stone. You can always find the latest listings on our Guests page.

We Are From I-Oh-Way
After a fun night in Omaha on Wednesday evening, Craig Ferguson moves his Live Comedy Tour a few miles east along Interstate 80 on Thursday, to perform at the Hoyt Sherman Theater in Des Moines, Iowa.  On Tuesday night, St. Louis enjoyed Craig’s show, as reported in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.  And on Wednesday, the Omaha World-Herald had a short Q & A with Craig.

Burns Night
Craig was kind enough to remind us that January 25th is the birthday of Scottish poet Robert Burns.  On the way to Omaha, he thought of a way to have fun with his opening act and road manager:

Happy birthday Rab. // Burns’ Day. St Louis – Omaha. 7hr bus ride I’ll fill by reciting old Scots poems to @tedalexandro & @philcottone . They seem excited.  //  The Burns’ poem I shall recite today is entitled “Nine Inch Will Please A Lady”. #realpoem. #notajoke #true

The RSA’s General @Malinky2Stoatir found the poem in question and posted a link.  And on the bus Wednesday, comedian Ted Alexandro tweeted about Craig’s recitations:

The Inferno is on to Omaha. 7 hr drive ahead. @craigyferg is going on about “O my Love’s like a red, red rose That’s newly sprung in June”

A Red Red Rose is one of Burns’ most famous poems.  Just before Wednesday night’s show, Craig retweeted @badastronomer and added some commentary:

“@BadAstronomer: Somehow, tweeting “PUEBLO I AM IN YOU” sounds dirty.”Not as dirty as “Omaha, I’ll be in your Orpheum tonight!”. #whichIwill

Puppets Rock
An article in the Seattle Times says puppets and marionettes seem to be on the rise in America and credits Craig among the reasons why.

Garbage Rocks, Too
The RSA’s @MissGraoully spotted an article on nme.com, which says the band Garbage will soon release it’s first album in five years. You may recall that the band’s singer, frequent LLS guest Shirley Manson, told Craig a while ago that the band has been on an extended hiatus while its members worked on other projects, including her television show, The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

Burns and Haggis
Last year on Burns night, Craig gave us a rundown of the January 25th tradition, the man it honors and of course, the haggis.

Tonight’s Guests
It’s “Le Late Late Show” from Paris all this week, continuing Wednesday, when Craig visits the Louvre, has a great conversation with Jean-Michel Cousteau and introduces us to cheesemaker Marie-Anne Cantin (from August 3, 2011).  Then on Thursday, Craig and Kristen Bell tour the Palace of Versailles with TV Presenter/French royalty expert Stéphane Berne (from August 4, 2011).

The Big O (No, Not That One)

After appearing at the Pageant in St. Louis on Tuesday evening, Craig Ferguson heads for cattle country as his Live Comedy Tour makes a stop at the Orpheum Theater in Omaha, Nebraska.

Craig has been tweeting from the road, sending pictures and thoughts along the way, including a retweet of his opening act this week, comedian Ted Alexandro, who got a picture of the tour bus they’re riding:

“@tedalexandro:”home”for the week. Sex,drugs & rock-n-roll or naps,multi-vitamins &quiet reading? http://pic.twitter.com/LXHWDOf6” Snacks & bedazzling

From the bus window, Craig captured the moment of crossing the Mississippi River:

http://twitpic.com/8bajwg Arriving St Louis.

He also offered his take on the cover art from Michael Ian Black’s new book:

Just seen the cover of the @michaelianblack book. I’m kicking myself for not having him do the cover of my book. Amazing bench pose work.

And in response to his Twitter friend @badastronomer (astronomer Phil Plait), who was talking about the solar winds that have been creating the recent northern lights and messing with electronic communications the past few days, Craig replied:

“@BadAstronomer: RT @shiftyphil: What effect will the coronal mass ejection have on @GeoffTheRobot?” He’ll probably break out in innuendo

Meanwhile, pictures and stories are rolling in from Craig’s tour, including one from St. Louis native @HMSFox, who sent us a picture of the poster for Craig’s show at The Pageant on Tuesday evening.   We haven’t heard from anyone who attended the show in Biloxi.  But the RSA’s @shananigan93 was in the audience in Birmingham and sent us this account:

Birmingham in ‘Bama
[stextbox id=”custom”]
Hi! I was lucky to attend Craig’s show in Birmingham!  I barely passed the age requirement to enter the club and it was my first time seeing Craig so I was pretty stoked (to say the least).

We had fantastic seats, right in front by the stage entrance, which came in handy later.  Rory Scovel did in fact open for Craig.  He was great!  Then Craig came on stage.

I don’t remember a time when I wasn’t smiling. One thing that the Alabama crowd really loved was when Craig mumbled “Roll Tide” (the motto of the Alabama Crimson Tide) in his Southern accent.  He said he wanted to get a flag that said “Roll Tide” when he cussed on the LLS.

A very nice lady at our table happened to bring a rather larger-than-life-size styrofoam cutout of Craig’s head.  She said she wanted to draw his attention and well, it worked.  She had it laying on the table and during the show he finally looked down and said,  “What is that?  Give it to me!”  He showed everyone in the crowd and asked, “Why do you even have this?!”  He then gives it back to her and told her to put it somewhere he couldn’t see it.

At the end of the show, Craig was asked to sign something and did, which encouraged more people to come to the stage.  Trying to leave, he said he had to get to Nashville.  At that point, I was standing at the stage where he would leave with my copy of American On Purpose and a Sharpie,  hoping he would look down and see me.  He did!  I actually thought he was going to tell me he had to go but to my surprise he said, “Okay,” grabbed my book and signed it, probably because I was practically begging him with my eyes.  I said, “Thank you so much.”  He said a kind, “You’re welcome,” and turned to walk away, nearly forgetting he still had my Sharpie.  But he remembered and tossed it back to me.

Best night ever.  My newly autographed book is now sitting next to my snake mug.  I can’t wait to see him again!  He was hilarious… of course, I never doubted that he would be! [/stextbox]

Nashville Nights
The following night, the RSA’s @GlitteryGirrll got to see Craig perform at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center in Nashville. She wrote:

[stextbox id=”custom”]
I was at Nashville show, was hilarious as expected. This was my first experience of Craig live and I LOVED every minute of it.

Ted Alexandro opened for him and did a great job “warming” us up!

Craig entered the stage following an exciting entrance of darkening of the hall and special lighting effects.  Of course we gave him a standing ovation.   He brought down the house with local humor about our Southern accents that he jokingly said he can’t seem to understand.

He laughed at some of his own jokes and even said after one he would have to leave it in, so apparently a new joke for the road was created.  He was heckled at end of show by audience members by asking him to play the mouth organ before leaving the stage.  Instead, he responded by saying he would do an awkward pause, which wasn’t so awkward and wasnt too much of a pause, either.  He left stage to another standing ovation.

My seat put me right at eye level with him.  I laughed ’til I cried, laughed ’til I squeeked and loved EVERY minute!  [/stextbox]

It’s Picture Time!
While at the show in Nashville, the RSA’s @bgrhubarb and @adnamay took some wonderful photos that they’ve graciously shared with us:

Craig and Trace Have Dinner
If you remember, Craig tweeted on Monday that he planned to have dinner with singer Trace Adkins after his Monday night show in Nashville.  The RSA’s very talented @VincentWaller72, who directed and wrote on the cult cartoon classic Ren and Stimpy, decided to draw what that dinner may have looked. It looks like Craig might become the meal if he isn’t careful! To see more of Vincent’s great work, check out his blog.

Tonight’s Guests
The Late Late Show is revisiting Paris this week.  Tuesday’s show features Kristen Bell, Eddie Izzard and actor Jean Reno (from August 2, 2011).  And on Wednesday, Craig visits the Louvre, plays in the pond with Jean-Michel Cousteau and relates the story of cheesemaker Marie-Anne Cantin (from August 3, 2011).

And a final note from CBS, with whom we join in offering our congratulations:

Congratulations Melissa McCarthy from #MikeAndMolly on being nominated for an Academy Award for #Bridesmaids!

Gateway City
Craig Ferguson‘s Live Comedy Tour took our fearless leader back to Nashville for a show at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center Monday night.  He moves on to St. Louis on Tuesday for a return engagement at the Pageant.   Along the way, Craig has been tweeting some of his experiences.  After making the trip from Birmingham to Nashville on Sunday evening, Craig had to wait out a tornado warning:

2am in Nashville and the tornado warning sirens are still blaring. V glad to be indoors. It’s gnarly out there. #imawussycaliforniannow // And the storm seems to have passed. No twisters with flying cows etc. Thank goodness. Goodnight.

We hope all of Craig’s robot skeleton faithful made it through the storms safely.  Craig also tweeted about his post-show plan for Monday night:

Show in Nashville tonight then dinner with my buddy @TraceAdkins. Good times. #theremaybemeat. #notcode

He even threw in a Kardasahian observation for good meansure:

I just read a tweet where Khloe Kardashian quoted George Bernard Shaw. Looking forward to a Joycean rebuttal from Snooki. #whatthefuck?

He also retweeted a link to the BBC with pictures of the northern lights over Scotland.  If you’ve never had the chance, we cannot recommend more strongly that you include seeing them on your bucket list.  The result of solar winds interacting with Earth’s atmosphere, the northern lights or Aurora Borealis and their southern counterpart, the Aurora Australis, are one of the most stunning sights in nature.

Less stunning but apparently still a rare sight, are truly nice men’s rooms, as Craig tweeted:

http://twitpic.com/8avk45 Men’s room or set of Lenny Kravitz video?

Opening Acts

Craig’s opening act in Biloxi and Birmingham was Los Angeles comedian Rory Scovel.

For the rest of this week’s tour, New York City-based comedian Ted Alexandro will open for Craig.  Ted has appeared on the Late Late Show and has opened for Craig in the past.

And as always, we are looking for your stories and photos.  If you are in the audience for any of Craig’s shows this week, we would be delighted to pass along your story to the rest of the Robot Skeleton Army.  Just use our Contact Us form to send us your story or a link to wherever you have posted it.

Tuesday’s show features Kristen Bell, Eddie Izzard and actor Jean Reno (from August 2, 2011).

Music City USA
Craig Ferguson takes his Live Comedy Tour back to Nashville, Tennessee on Monday, returning to the Polk Theater where he recorded his most recent comedy special, Does This Need To Be Said?  After his Saturday night show in Biloxi, Craig tweeted on Sunday morning:

Getting on tour bus to roll from Biloxi Mississippi – Birmingham Alabama. Surely a Cracker Barrel breakfast cannot be far away. Good times.

Later he added:

Heading to gig in Alabama. Things looking a bit tornado-y. Damn. I wanted to wear my new hat.

We hope everyone in the area stays safe.

Betty Digs Craig
The RSA’s @RaniVermonty found an article on StarPulse.com from 2010, where Betty White says nice things about Craig.

Other Craig Fergusons
From our “other Craig Fergusons” file, there is a Craig Ferguson who plays for a professional soccer team in New Zealand.

Horse Outfit

The RSA’s @doxieone1 was out and about and spotted a horse costume that looked a bit familiar.

This Week’s Guests

Jean Reno

All this week on the Late Late Show, we get to revisit Craig’s whirlwind tour of Paris.  Monday, Craig tours the Eiffel Tower and begins a series of chats with bookstore owner Sylvia Beach Whitman and TV Host/Comedian Jacques “Arthur” Essebag (from August 1, 2011).  Tuesday’s show features Kristen Bell, Eddie Izzard and one of many conversations with actor Jean Reno (from August 2, 2011).  On Wednesday, Craig visits the Louvre, goes boating with Jean-Michel Cousteau and meets cheesemaker Marie-Anne Cantin (from August 3, 2011).  Craig tours the Palace of Versailles on Thursday and talks about France’s rulers with TV presenter/French royalty expert Stéphane Berne (from August 4, 2011).  And on Friday Craig chats with shoe designer Christian Louboutain and performs at the Moulin Rouge (from August 5, 2011).

Paint Me A Birmingham
Craig Ferguson heads to Birmingham, Alabama on Sunday for a pair of shows at the Stardome Comedy Club, as he continues this week’s leg of his Live Comedy Tour.  Upon arriving in Biloxi, Mississippi on Saturday, Craig tweeted:

Woke up in Biloxi MS with a hangover. Odd. I stopped drinking nearly 20 years ago. Maybe latenight truckstop Moon Pie is the culprit. #code

Let’s hope he washed it down with an RC Cola, the drink famously paired with Moon Pies across the South. Later, he added:

http://twitpic.com/8a1asf If you ever need alone time I suggest the gym in a large casino. #latenighttruckstopmoonpieguilt

After working out, he tweeted a single letter, followed by an explanation:

X // Oh. I seem to have accidentally tweeted the letter X. Please accept it as a kiss. You too ladies.

And just before Saturday’s show, Craig retweeted an audience member’s observation and quipped:

“@Danimal76: Someone is walking around with a bunny puppet at the @CraigyFerg show.” Good grief! Not another one. They’re breeding like..oh

Scottish Silliness
The Scottish press is at it again, this time in the Scottish Sun newspaper. They use a very deceptive headline, not based on any facts or quotes, designed to catch attention that is not substantiated in the article.  The rest of the article is mostly decent, expect for a few incorrect or incomplete facts, about Craig’s sister Lynn Ferguson.  Upon reading the article, Lynn tweeted:

Gags. What gags? @craigyferg Since when did you start using gags? http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/homepage/scotlandfeatures/4075918/Lynn-Ferguson-Its-no-surprise-my-brother-Craig-cracked-America-I-wrote-most-of-his-gags.html

There was another, much better article on Scotsman.com previewing the television special Lynn is narrating about the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.  Thanks to the RSA’s @NancyInTampa and @CozyHobo for the link.

Lord Byron

Holidays and Birthdays
Saturday, January 21st is National Hugging Day, as well as the birthday of George Orwell, Benny Hill, Jack Nicklaus and Placido Domingo.  Sunday, January 22nd is Answer Your Cat’s Questions Day, and is the birthday of August Strindberg, Ann Sothern and Lord Byron. Here is perhaps Lord Byron’s most famous work:

[stextbox id=”custom”]

She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that’s best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellow’d to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.

One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o’er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.

And on that cheek, and o’er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all
A heart whose love is innocent!
[/stextbox]
