Oh Henry

Maybe it’s just the result of hanging around with Craig, but Henry Winkler can make something sound naughty, even if it’s not.  The Huffington Post couldn’t resist posting a clip from Thursday’s show.

Phil Talks about Craig

Phun With Phil
Astronomer Phil Plait had a great time visiting with Craig on Wednesday’s show and decided to play a tribute to the show on the golden mouth organ. It’s a brief chance to see the golden mouth organ up close. He also tweeted a link to the images he talked about on the show:

Here are links to the pix I showed on @craigyferg‘s show: http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/badastronomy/2011/12/15/epic-tantrum-thrown-by-30-octillion-ton-baby/

As Craig re-tweeted on Thursday afternoon, the LLS won the Best Variety Show category in the TV.com Best of 2011 poll. Also, Craig came in second in the Funniest Late Night Host category behind Jon Stewart of The Daily Show.  TV.com is a CBS Interactive website.

The confirmed guest list has been updated through March 14, including Louie Anderson and Jennette McCurdy. You can see the most up-to-date listings on our Guests page.

Craig Tweets
Once in a while, Craig Ferguson spends a little extra time on Twitter and has some fun.  Wednesday was a great example, when Craig started up a hashtag game that drew hundreds of responses.  His two tweets encouraging people to replace words in song titles got the ball rolling:

Smoke on the Water. #replacesongtitlewithothersongtitle #stupidtwitterhashtags  //  Old MacDonald had a Farm #replacesongtitlewithothersongtitle #stupidtwitterhashtags #babytoymusicinmyhouse #eieio

And in the midst of the flurry of responses, Craig added a deep and ponderable thought about Leap Day:

This day last year it wasn’t.

Meanwhile, one of Wednesday’s guests, astronomer Phil Plait, tweeted that he would be on the show:

“@BadAstronomer: Tonight I’ll be on @CraigyFerg! And that’s not code. #ItsAGreatLeapDayForAmericaEverybody http://is.gd/LQ32Na”

Craig saw the shortened link to Phil’s blog post and joked:

#iscode

Later, Wednesday’s other guest, actor Thomas Lennon tweeted:

Me and @CraigyFerg try to start a fire using only our butt cheeks on to tonight’s Late Late Show.

To which Craig responded:

friction burns but(t)worth it

And Phil Plait added:

@CraigyFerg Deny it all you want big guy, but between the @thomaslennon butt rubbing & our conversation, it *ain’t* code.

Craig wasn’t the only late night host playing hashtag games on Wednesday.  NBC’s Jimmy Fallon got one started and offered an example:

Hashtag game! Tweet out some funny, weird, or crazy story about your coworker and tag with #mycoworkeriscrazy. Could be on our show!  //  He walked into my office, aimed a marshmallow gun at my face, unloaded, then left. #mycoworkeriscrazy

So Craig decided to give it a try:

@jimmyfallon – He is a gay robot skeleton. #mycoworkeriscrazy

Working Ahead
Craig and company have been busily taping extra segments of the show to store for later, perhaps to have a few all-news shows up their sleeve during Craig’s west coast comedy tour in April.  Among the guests being saved for a future date is comedian Geoff Tate, who tweeted:

I guess it can be told now. I’m taping the @CraigyFerg show today. This is my dressing room. http://pic.twitter.com/nE9zIRHg

Speaking of the west coast tour, tickets for Craig’s show in Lancaster, CA go on sale at 3pm ET/12pm PT on Thursday. As always, our Live Comedy Tour page has all the latest information and links for tickets.

Georgia-based theweekly.com profiles a Gwinnett College student Christopher Govan, who is interning for the Late Late Show’s audience wranglers and production support partners, 1iota.  He gets to do some fun work for the show and learn about the television business from the inside.  Thanks to the RSA’s @bgrhubarb for spotting the link!

Swedish Press
Craig Ferguson‘s recent conversation with actress Malin Ã…ckerman made headlines in a Swedish newspaper, as @alexndrs discovered. The quote, which refers to Swedish television personalities Filip Hammar and Fredrik Wikingsson (who once made a brief appearance on the Late Late Show) translates roughly as:

“They’ve traveled a lot back and forth to LA. They are really funny and good at fitting furniture.” Malin Ã…kerman reveals during her visit with Craig Ferguson that Filip and Fredrik, who just commented on the live broadcast of the Oscars for Swedish viewers, are her favorite show hosts in Sweden.

Thanks to the RSA’s @bgrhubarb for spotting the tweet.

Reaching for the Stars
Astronomer Phil Plait will be on Wednesday’s Late Late Show and he wrote about it in his blog.

Silent Movie
In case you missed Craig’s silent movie on Monday’s show featuring Alex and Bridger, here is another look. And to those smart-alacks who pointed out that it’s not really a silent movie because Craig speaks at the end… that was part of the joke!

Tonight’s Guests
Tuesday on the Late Late Show, Craig chats with TV host Dr. Mehmet Oz and TV personality Carrie Keagan.  On Wednesday, enjoy a visit with actor Thomas Lennon and astronomer Phil Plait.

Tour Update
We have confirmed that Craig Ferguson‘s April west coast tour will include a stop at the Lancaster Performing Arts Center in Lancaster, CA (north of Los Angeles) on April 21st at 8pm.  It will be a rare chance for fans in the greater Los Angeles area to see Craig perform his live stand up show so close to home.  Tickets go on sale this Thursday at 3pm ET/Noon PT. Meanwhile, we’re still waiting to see ticket information pop up online for the Casino Del Sol show in Tucson, AZ on April 19th.  The casino tells us that they hope to have something posted by early March.  You can always find the most current details on our Live Comedy Tour page.

Stick It To ‘Em
After this week’s discussion about Craig-themed license plates and bumper stickers, the RSA’s @Colleen_Byrne reminds us that there are RSA stickers available in her Robot Skeleton Army Store, from which all proceeds to go charity. This month’s charity is one of Craig’s favorites, the USO.

Merida At Disney

Our friends at StitchKingdom.com are reporting that Disney is auditioning for actresses to portray the new Disney/Pixar character of Merida from the film Brave at Disney World in Florida.  The ad specifies that they’re looking for someone playful and between 5’4″ and 5’6″ but there’s no word on whether a Scottish accent is required.

Fun With Fred
Craig tweeted to Scottish comedian Fred MacAulay on Monday:

@fredmacaulay Hey Fred. Can you DM me? I have a proposition for you. #notcode. #wellmaybe

Fred quickly responded:

@CraigyFergDone. Get back to me with the proposition…We could have talked last week I was in LA! //  PS You know Trondheim is in Norway……#notcodeeither

If you’ve not had the pleasure of seeing Fred perform, here’s a sample.  He was a guest on the popular British comedy panel show Mock the Week and was asked by host Dara Ó Briain to improvise on the topic of etiquette. He chose a story from a soccer match featuring the Partick Thistle Football Club, of which Craig is a fan, that sums up Scottish etiquette surrounding the use of the F-word:

Monday on the Late Late Show, Craig enjoys some time with actor/writer Eric Idle and actress Sarah Paulson.  On Tuesday, watch for TV personalities Dr. Mehmet Oz and Carrie Keagan.  CBS tweeted:

Guest Update

The Late Late Show confirmed guest list has been updated through March 9th, including Boston-based comedian Dan Boulger, whose set was recorded all the way back on October 10th of last year but has yet to see the light of day.  Let’s hope Dan hasn’t given up comedy and moved on to selling used cars by now.  You can see the most current listings on our Guests page.

An Automotive Theme

After seeing the “Ferg” car window sticker in our most recent post, the RSA’s @Sherivig couldn’t resist sending us a photo of her license plate… and yes, it is her real license plate.  How about you?  Do you have any Craig Ferguson, Geoff Peterson or Late Late Show-related decorations on or inside your car?  Let us know!

Idle Idols
Actor/writer/producer Eric Idle isn’t just in California to visit with Craig. As the Los Angeles Times explains, he is launching a play on stage in LA in April that has an amazing cast including Russell Brand, Tim Curry, Billy Connolly, Eddie Izzard, Jane Leeves, Tracey Ullman, and Sophie Winkleman as well as Idle himself.

Sarah Paulson on DVD

LLS guest Sarah Paulson stars in the film some describe as the year’s best movie overlooked by the Oscars, Martha Marcy May Marlene. As the Kansas City Star reports, the film is coming out on DVD this week.

Dragons Live and in Person
Last week, we gave you an inside look at the new How To Train Your Dragon arena show that begins a world tour in Australia and New Zealand in March and April. This commercial and this one are starting to appear on television down under, as the RSA’s @dorindaletitbe discovered. Although dates have not yet been announced, the show is scheduled to come to the United States later this year. Here is a video clip from the media announcement:

This Week’s Guests

Jay Baruchel

It’s another week of all-new episodes of the Late Late Show, beginning Monday with actor Eric Idle and actress Sarah Paulson.  Tuesday, Craig chats with TV host Dr. Mehmet Oz and TV personality Carrie Keagan.  Wednesday, watch for the return of actor Thomas Lennon and astronomer Phil Plait.   Actor Henry Winkler and actor Jay Baruchel are in the studio on Thursday.  And on Friday, Craig welcomes radio personality/comedian Dennis Miller and the music of The Light Brigade.

Ferg Nation
You’ve all seen those white oval stickers on cars.  They have black letters on a white background and utilize anywhere from just one to a few letters, and were originally designed to indicate the country of registration for cars in Europe.  For example, cars with the letter “D” were from Deutschland (Germany) and “F” were from France, etc.   They first started showing up in the United States simply as a national sticker (USA), then to indicate states (NY or GA) and cities (DEN for Denver or PHX for Phoenix).  Eventually the idea was commercialized to indicate everything from specific tourist areas (“OBX” for North Carolina’s Outer Banks was among the early examples), sports teams and specific products or ideas.

The RSA’s @HMSFox spotted and photographed what may be our new favorite, from the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson, Missouri.  These things could catch on!

Late Night Stand Up

The Huffington Post collected several of the stand up comedians who made appearances on the late night talk shows this past week, including Austin, Texas-based Ramin Nazer on the Late Late Show.

She’s a Doll
The Disney/Pixar animated feature film Brave won’t hit theaters until this summer but the merchandising machine behind it has already begun.  The UK’s Express.co.uk reports that a new Merida doll will be among the collectibles tied to the film.

Mr. Warmth Online
