The Scotland Shows Are Here
We first got wind of the story last December that Craig Ferguson might be taking the Late Late Show to Scotland. He was there to tape a week’s worth of shows in March and the excitement has been building ever since. To help promote the show, Craig will be on The Price Is Right on CBS, Chelsea Lately on E! and on Entertainment Tonight on Monday.  Check your local listings for the time “in your region.” Here, Craig speaks with Global TV in Canada about the upcoming shows. Please note: The story includes several brief clips from the week’s shows. Mild spoilers ahead! It’s a great week for America, everybody!

You can, thanks to CBS and Visit Scotland, the official tourism agency of the country. Check out the details on the CBS website. You must enter by May 31st and take the trip within a year.

Scotland Episodes Draw Attention
Media outlets are previewing the Scotland episodes, including (mild spoilers ahead!) the New York Post, the website Examiner.com and Scotland’s Arbroath Herald, which hopes the exposure the historic region will receive in the United States will encourage tourism. Finally, Scotland’s Daily Record previews the shows, including an interview with Craig who says he was pleasantly surprised by how nice it was to be back home. Thanks to the RSA’s @cozyhobo, @missgraoully, @joannapowers2 and many more for their tips!

Craig in the Studio
For the past week, we’ve enjoyed reading about the RSA’s @NancyInTampa‘s trip to California in April to see four of Craig’s live stand up comedy performances. In her final installment, Nancy tells us about how she stayed in California an extra day to catch a taping of the Late Late Show at CBS Television City. A big thank you Nancy for a wonderful week of stories to share with the rest of the RSA. And remember, we always appreciate tips and contributions from our readers. If you have a Craig-related story to tell, please send it our way!

King of Late Night
The PBS anthology series American Masters will feature a two hour special on Monday evening on longtime Tonight Show host Johnny Carson. The New York Times story about the special does not mention Craig among the many hosts whose shows can trace their formats to Carson. But the Washington Post does talk about Craig near the end of the article, saying nice things about him. Thanks to the RSA’s Gus for the link!

The website Examiner.com recently posted a pair of interviews comedians Carl Reiner and Drew Carey, who talk about Carson. In Carey’s interview, he also talks about why Craig is such a great talk show host. Thanks to the RSA’s @cozyhobo for the link!

A California Detour
All this week, we’ve been featuring stories from the RSA’s @NancyInTampa, who traveled to California in April to see four of Craig’s stand up comedy shows and attend a taping of the LLS. In today’s post, Nancy had the chance to see a different kind of live show with some famous faces on stage. Tomorrow, Nancy wraps up her trip with a visit to CBS Television City.

May Birthdays
Saturday, May 12th is the birthday of poet Dante Gabriel Rossetti, actress Katharine Hepburn, baseball legend Yogi Berra and actress Malin Akerman. Sunday, May 13th is the birthday of actress Bea Arthur, singer Stevie Wonder, one of those “vampires with feelings,” actor Robert Pattinson and singer Ritchie Valens. We couldn’t resist putting up two video clips. First, alongside the fabulous Peter O’Toole, watch Katharine Hepburn in one of her finest roles as Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine in The Lion In Winter, for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress. And then, Ritchie Valens singing what became the signature tune of his all-too-short career:

Craig at Paley Center
Craig Ferguson‘s long-awaited first visit to the Paley Center for Media in Los Angeles came on Thursday night, as Craig screened next week’s first episode of the Late Late Show in Scotland. After a slight delay in the start of the program due to heavy traffic in LA thanks to President Barack Obama‘s fundraising dinner at George Clooney‘s house, the audience sat back to enjoy the episode, which will be broadcast on Monday, May 14th. Craig was then interviewed on stage by Lynette Rice of Entertainment Weekly. He took questions from the audience and posed for pictures afterward. The Paley Center posted some fantastic photos of Craig during the show:

For the full-sized versions of these pictures and more photos from the event, check out the Paley Center’s collection. The Paley Center may or may not post video clips of the event at some point in the future. If they do, we’ll be sure to link to them here when they become available.

Roboskellies in the Audience
Watching the tweets roll by on Thursday night, it appears that the RSA’s @bd__sd, @Colleen_Byrne, @Diane4Mail, @monroemk and @mickilee were in the audience at the Paley Center. @bd__sd compiled two compilations to give the RSA a taste of the event: One has the Paley Center’s tweets during the event, the other has a sampling of fan tweets during and after the show. Thanks to @bd__sd for putting it all together!

By LALITA AUGUSTINE

AN UNSIGNED Glasgow band will be shown on American television for a whole week, exposing them to an average of two million viewers a night.

Rock band The Imagineers were selected as the house band for hit TV programme, The Late Late Show, hosted by Scottish comedian and presenter, Craig Ferguson, when he filmed a special week of home-coming episodes at the Tron Theatre in Glasgow in March.

The Scottish episodes will now be broadcast on CBS television in the States, Monday to Friday next week, and the band will feature alongside Hollywood star guests Michael Clark Duncan, Mila Kunis and Rashida Jones, as well as First Minister Alex Salmond.

They’ll perform a selection of their songs, and have recorded their own version of the show’s theme tune, which will be used as the opening credits for the week. The band was selected after show researchers spotted them at a gig in January at the Captain’s Rest pub on Great Western Road.

Ali Greig, 23, who plays bass in the band, said: “Craig sent his team off to gigs and told them to “find me a band I would have wanted to be in 30 years ago.”

Craig, who started his career playing comedian Bing Hitler, was a drummer in his student days, playing in Glasgow punk rock band The Dreamboys, which featured actor Peter Capaldi as lead singer.

The Imagineers soon found themselves performing at the Tron Theatre in front of a live studio audience.

Ali said: “We played it as if we were playing a gig. We also recorded our own version of the theme tune and performed it live outdoors in Edinburgh. Craig Ferguson was jumping around everywhere – it was all a bit mad.”

The band’s song Imagineer was also chosen by CBS for the promo video advertising the week-long event, which saw Craig, who hails from Cumbernauld, visit various locations around the country, including Edinburgh, Glasgow, Arbroath and Cumbernauld, where he paid a visit to his old school, Cumbernauld High.

Ali said: “We all thought he was cool. He’s got bags of confidence but he’s down to earth.”

With a performance coming up at King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut in June and new single, Spooky From A Distance, being released next Sunday, the broadcasts couldn’t have come at a better time.

Ali said: “It’s quite strange now that it’s already happened for us.

“So far, there’s been more activity on our website so it will be interesting to see how it unfolds.”[/stextbox]

Craig on The Price Is Right
Among his many television appearances leading up to the Scotland episodes being broadcast during the week of May 14th through the 18th, Craig will be appearing on The Price Is Right on Monday the 14th to give away some prizes. New Studio in September
As we and others had speculated, it appears Craig and the Late Late Show will be moving into their new studio at CBS Television City in September. Craig mentioned it on Tuesday night when he invited Steven Tyler and Arrowsmith to perform on the show. The LLS team often takes a summer break in August, so that break may be two or three weeks long this year, to allow crews enough time to make the move from Studio 58 to Studio 56 across the hall. Although we would expect a new set will be built, CBS will likely move much of the behind-the-scenes infrastructure from one studio to the other, including equipment in the control room, the show’s relatively new HD cameras, lighting and other gear. We’ll keep you posted on the move and the debut of the new studio as the day draws closer.

Tonight’s Guests
Wednesday on the Late Late Show, watch for actress Jenna Fischer and actor Danny Huston.  Thursday, Craig chats with journalist Christiane Amanpour and actress Anna Kendrick.
