This Week’s Guests

Shohreh Aghdashloo

While nearly all of the other major late-night talk shows will be in re-runs this week, the Late Late Show is on a roll with five more all-new episodes, beginning Monday when Craig talks with actor Benjamin McKenzie and actress Shohreh Aghdashloo.  On Tuesday, Craig has fun with actor DJ Qualls and chef Wolfgang Puck.  Wednesday, the lone guest on the schedule is comedian and TV host Howie Mandel.  Actress Carrie Fisher returns to the show on Thursday, along with actor Tony Hale.  And on Friday, Craig welcomes actor Jeff Garlin and actress Sonya Walger.  The re-run fairy returns for the first full week of June.  See the complete listings on our Guests page.

To our American readers, we hope you have a good Memorial Day holiday, remembering those who gave their lives in war and enjoying the unofficial start of summer.

Tattoo Tip
Leave it to a Craig Ferguson super-fan, the RSA’s @fergufool, to find the best photo of Craig’s tattoo on his left shoulder. As we mentioned in our most recent post, the tribute to Craig’s mother’s family is rarely seen and we were not quite sure from where the design came. But the ever-resourceful @fergufool had the perfect photo in her collection, showing clearly that the design is a Celtic cross, emblazoned with the Ingram clan motto: Magnanimus esto which means “Be great of mind.” Thanks for the definitive answer!

The Doctor’s Torch
The eleventh Doctor Who, actor Matt Smith, was among those given the honor of carrying the Olympic torch for a portion of its journey from Athens, Greece to London for the 2012 Summer Games.

Radio Reunion
For your listening pleasure, podcaster Timm McCoy interviews Josh Robert Thompson, the voice of Geoff Peterson. Josh used to call in to Timm’s radio show in Cleveland 20 years ago and the two are re-united here. Interview segments with Josh are scattered throughout the podcast.

The Brave Game
As Mel Brooks said in Spaceballs, it’s all about the “moichendizing.” And so it is with the Disney/Pixar film Brave, which will offer Brave: The Video Game:

Craig’s Tattoos
Craig Ferguson has three tattoos, which he has said is purely because he was told after getting his second tattoo that it was unlucky have an even number of tattoos.  When pressed to answer who gave him this advice, he sheepishly admits, “A tattoo artist.”

The first was one on his right shoulder that he has referred to as his father’s family crest, although in Scottish clan terminology, it appears to be what is often called a “badge” for the Ferguson clan.  He has shown that tattoo several times since getting it in 2007 at the famous Miami Ink tattoo parlor.

The second and third tattoos came around the same time in 2009, thanks to the enterprising tattoo artist mentioned above.  The one on his left shoulder is to honor his mother’s family, the Ingram family.  It is rarely seen, and even from the photos we’ve seen, it’s difficult to tell if it is a crest, a coat of arms, a badge or some other sort of device. In the first photo, you can see part of the tattoo from a Twitter avatar Craig briefly used. The second is the “badge” of the Colquhoun clan, to whom the Ingram family is tied. The third is a screen capture of Craig on a show when he decided not to wear his suit for the opening of the show. The last two are examples of Ingram family crests we found, but none seem to quite resemble the tattoo itself. We would need a better look to be sure.

The most visible of the three is one of a cartoon drawn by none other than Ben Franklin, in the Pennsylvania Gazette in 1754, representing the colonies that would later assemble as the United States of America. First the cartoon itself, then Craig’s tattoo.

You can read more about Craig’s tattoos on the RSA’s @bgrhubarb‘s very thorough Craig-related FAQ page about two-thirds of the way down the page in the right-hand column.

The Doctor Carries the Torch
Doctor Who actor Matt Smith will be one of the lucky few to carry the Olympic torch as it makes its way through the United Kingdom ahead of this year’s Games, according to the BBC. Fans of the show had petitioned to have the tenth Doctor, actor David Tennant carry the torch, because he did so in an episode of the show’s forth modern series, as pictured on metro.co.uk. Thanks to the RSA’s @MissGraoully for the link!

Eastern Road Trip
When Craig Ferguson hits the road in October for a string of ten stand up comedy performances, he’ll be covering 1500 miles in nine days.  For fun, we plugged the tour stops into Mapquest and came up with this route.  Your mileage may vary.

Craig will start out in Atlantic City on October 5th at the Tropicana, where he has performed many times. From there, he’ll head up to Radio City Music Hall in New York City and out to Easton, Pennsylvania before doubling back to Ridgefield, Connecticut on October 8th. Then it’s back on the bus to Pennsylvania for stops in Hershey and Greensburg. He’ll move northward into New York for a public show in Ithaca and a pair of private shows in Rochester. Finally, the longest leg of the trip is the last; nearly 400 miles from Rochester to the Foxwoods Resort in Connecticut on October 13th. As always, for complete details about Craig’s trip and how you can see him perform in person, check out our Live Comedy Tour page, which we keep updated with locations, dates, times and links to tickets. You won’t find a more complete and up-to-date list of Craig’s live shows anywhere on the interwebs. It’s true. We checked.

Archery is Hot
As part of its Olympics coverage, NBC and its local television stations are doing a series of articles talking about sports in popular culture. In a story posted Wednesday, they talk about the sudden surge of interest in the sport of archery. They credit the films The Hunger Games and The Avengers, which feature archery prominently, for raising the sport’s profile and say the upcoming film Brave and a new fall CW series called Arrow could help even more.

Accent Trouble
The RSA’s @HoboRobot wondered what would happen if iPhone’s “Siri” could be used to tell the Doctor Who TARDIS where to go… and if Siri had a difficult time understanding Craig’s recently refreshed Scottish accent.  The result is an image of Craig and Geoff in a bit of trouble.

Brave Mothers and Daughters
During the flurry of activity around the Scotland episodes, Disney/Pixar released a brief clip saluting Mother’s Day featuring Merida and her mother from the film Brave. We’re a little late in posting it but please enjoy:

A Taping of the LLS
The RSA’s @canyongal78 had a chance to attend a taping of the Late Late Show last week. She sent us her story:

[stextbox id=”custom”]One Fangirl’s Story

On May 16, I was able to experience an amazing event in my life: I was an audience member at The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.

The whole day leading up to the taping was somewhat surreal for this fangirl, and I had a lovely time driving around Hollywood and exploring some places viewers of The Late Late Show would recognize. I started my morning by driving through beautiful Griffith Park to walk around the Griffith Observatory, which is seen in the opening credits of the show.

I drove into Hollywood to acquaint myself with where CBS Studios are located. I parked at The Grove and walked past the dancing fountain, another image in the beginning credits where we see Craig soaking wet and singing. Just seeing the iconic CBS Television City building sent excited chills down my spine!

I managed to make it back to my hotel to make myself look presentable and drove to the taping later that day. The people waiting in line with me were super friendly, as were the staffers for 1iota [the company responsible for coordinating audiences for taping] and The Late Late Show.

We were ushered into the studio, where we were given candy and listened to the charming, perverted Chunky B, the warm-up comedian who yells “GIVE ME THUNDER!!!” Before I knew what was happening, it was show time.

Craig came out and was as charming, hysterically funny and good-looking as he is on tv (more so, if I may say!). We laughed and clapped until it physically hurt. I don’t know that I have ever laughed that much in my life!

Josh Robert Thompson, who is the voice of Geoff Peterson, was on fire as Craig’s side-kick. Between the monologue, the interactions between Craig and Geoff, and the guest interviews, I experienced the greatest television entertainment ever.

That day is one that I will remember and treasure forever, and I cannot wait to go back to a taping of The Late Late Show![/stextbox]

If you see a taping of the show or have a chance to see Craig perform live, we want to hear your story. Just use our Contact Us form to tell us about your experience and we’d be happy to share it with the rest of the Robot Skeleton Army.

Cheeky Monkeys
All this week, we’re posting clips from the upcoming Disney/Pixar film Brave. Here, we see Merida‘s brothers getting creative and making off with some treats.

Also added to the list this week are actress Rutina Wesley on Wednesday and musician Sara Watkins on Thursday. Actors Benjamin McKenzie and DJ Qualls have been added to next week’s listings.
