King as a Ghost?
On Monday night, one of Craig Ferguson‘s guests will be legendary horror novelist Stephen King.  CBS was kind enough to post a clip from the interview, where King talks about a possibility for his future:

Dave Barry at the Olympics

Author and journalist Dave Barry will appear on Monday’s Late Late Show thanks to the magic of television and pre-recorded interviews. He is, in fact, in London, covering the Olympics from his own unique perspective. For a series of good laughs, check out Barry’s columns from the past week.

Nerdist Redux
The @Nerdist Chris Hardwick tweeted about a remixed video of his BBC America television show edited by Mike Relm and featuring Craig Ferguson among other past guests. It’s a little slice of geeky goodness:

Make Up Your Own Joke

The RSA’s @cozyhobo spotted an article from USA Today, which highlights attempts to re-introduce beavers to Scotland. She probably lamented as we did that Craig happens to be a break at the moment. Surely there would have been an opportunity for a joke or two. “If you see it in the newspaper, you know it must be true!”

Redheaded League
The Irish Times playfully takes the makers of Brave to task, not for having a redheaded heroine but for perpetuating the stereotype of redheads being rebellious, hot-tempered types.

Craig in 2008

The eagle-eyed @bgrhubarb spotted a photo in the current issue of the CBS network’s Watch magazine, first taken in 2008 and reprinted for your summertime enjoyment.

Brave in Scotland
This weekend, the Disney/Pixar animated feature film Brave, featuring the voice of Craig Ferguson, opens on movie screens across Scotland, two weeks before its wide release in the rest of the UK and Europe. The Daily Record has a slideshow filled with images from the film, Scotsman.com talks about the real-life locations that inspired the film’s detailed backdrop, the Telegraph talks about places you can visit to get the flavor of the land, and BBC Scotland talks about the historical context in which a heroine like Merida might have existed.

Character of Merida
Actress Kelly MacDonald tells Scottish Television about how excited she was to play the character of Merida and the Scottish Sun talks about a Merida look-alike who will be at theaters this weekend to help promote the film.

Rashida as Writer

The RSA’s Gus drew our attention to the New York Times story about Rashida Jones and her dual role as writer and star in her latest film.

Storm Clouds Gather
The RSA’s @HoboRobot spotted a photo of a thunderstorm in Georgia and thought, “Remind you of anyone?” We’re not sure if this is one of those kinds of things where you see the face of Elvis in your breakfast toast, but you be the judge.

Moon Landing Tribute
We’ve been asking you, our loyal readers, to send us your memories of seeing Craig in person in Studio 58 at CBS Television City by using our Contact Us form or sending us a link to your blog or website. The RSA’s @cynsha tells us about one of her favorite memories:

[stextbox id=”custom”]
My husband and I made our second visit to The Late Late Show studio on July 20, 2009, which happened to be the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. A week or so before, I sent an email to Craig asking if he would be mentioning the anniversary in his monologue. Much to the audience’s delight, just before the show was to tape, Craig came out and told us that they sometimes to a little routine with the puppets. I loved those puppets, so was bursting at the seams with anticipation.

Even more exciting was when we found out Craig and company were planning to do the tribute to Apollo 11 with a rousing rendition of the Fireball XL-5 theme song. It literally made me cry, I was so happy.

PS. I’m the Cindy from Mankato, Minnesota who sent Craig the email about telling him about the Sexiest Talk Show Host survey in Marie Claire Magazine (that he was leading by in a landslide). I loved that email segment.[/stextbox]

Tonight’s Guests
Thursday on the Late Late Show, Craig reads tweetmails with actress Rashida Jones and interviews Julie Delpy.  On Friday, Craig’s guests are actor Edward Norton and actress Malin Ã…kerman.

First Studio 56 Show August 27
We have received confirmation from CBS that the first show to be broadcast of the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson from the newly-remodedled Studio 56 at CBS Television City will be on Monday, August 27th. There will be two test shows taped with audiences on August 22nd and 23rd to make sure all of the cameras, microphones, lighting and many other technical aspects of the studio are all working properly but the first show the folks at home will get to see will be on the 27th. Tickets appear to still be available for the test shows and for the first show in the new studio, with guest Kristen Bell already on the schedule. The final “new” pre-recorded show from Studio 58 will be on Wednesday, August 8th, followed by rebroadcasts of some favorite episodes from the past year.

Send us your experience using our Contact Us form or just send us a link to your blog or website and we’d be happy to share your story with the rest of the robot skeleton army. Thanks to everyone who has sent in stories!

Spreading the Freshness
Rather than spending all of their new shows in one place, it appears that Craig Ferguson and the Late Late Show are spreading out the remaining “new” episodes to cover more of the August break.  The latest confirmed schedule from CBS shows that in addition to this week’s all new shows, next week will include three new episodes and two rebroadcasts of favorite shows from earlier in the year.  Details are below in the guest update.

More Studio 58 Memories
The RSA’s Dave sent us his Studio 58 memory, and you can too, using our Contact Us form or by sending us a link to your website or blog.  We enjoy giving the rest of the robot skeleton army a chance to read your stories!

[stextbox id=”custom”]We visited the Late Late Show for the first time a few years ago. When we got into the studio, we saw a block of seats up front that were empty. Then right before the show started Marion Ross (of Happy Days fame) sits down with some others. Marion was part of the opening and the closing. Only bad part is Craig didn’t cuss all night, he was on his best behavior in front of Marion. I still remember walking into the cold studio that first time and commenting on how small it really was. Great experience![/stextbox]

Craig in Vegas
Now that tickets have gone on sale, the website VegasNews.com has picked up on the news that Craig will be performing at the Venetian in September.  Thanks to the RSA’s @bgrhubarb for the link!

Guest Update

Carla Gugino

Chalk this one up to the Late Late Show zigging while others zag:  The week of August 6th-10th will feature three new shows and two encore presentations, and there are still enough guest segments in storage for three or four new shows that might air the following week.  Confirmed on the guest list for new shows are Stephen King, Dave Barry, The Rock Bottom Remainders, Rachel Ray, The Imagineers, Chris Hardwick and Carla Gugino.  We’ll also see rebroadcasts of shows with DJ Qualls, Wolfgang Puck, Steve Carell and Don Winslow.  You can see the latest listings on our Guests page.

A Studio 58 Memory
The RSA’s @Smatelyn sent us a memory of getting to see Craig Ferguson in person at Studio 58 at CBS Television City. You can send us yours by using our Contact Us page or by tweeting us a link to your blog or website, and we’d be happy to share it with the rest of the robot skeleton army.

[stextbox id=”custom”]One of the best memories I had in Studio 58 is when my friend and I made shirts to go. We made special ones that said “Craig Is A Sexy Beast”. We were very proud of our shirts, and we were glad we wore them. We sat in “lesbian row” before it was called that. When the show started, we kept seeing Craig look over at us and laugh and smile. At the end of the show, Craig came up to us and asked us why we made the shirts…because it clearly wasn’t for him. We told him it was for him and he just started laughing and told us that he wasn’t a sexy beast. He then told us thank you for making his day because it made him laugh.

We were just happy that we wore those shirts, and he actually talked to us. It was one of my favorite memories. Plus, Chunky B gave my friend a lap dance and that was just the cherry on top.[/stextbox]

Women Doing Stand Up
The website indiewire.com reports on how few female comedians get a chance to perform on late night television.
