Vegas Week
Craig Ferguson hosts another week of all-new episodes of the Late Late Show this week. Even on Thursday and Friday, thanks to the magic of television, we’ll be able to see new shows while Craig himself will be at the Venetian in Las Vegas for three live stand up comedy performances at 9pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The voice of Geoff Peterson, Josh Robert Thompson, will be opening for Craig during his time in Vegas. Las Vegas Weekly interviewed Craig ahead of his visit this week. Thanks to the RSA’s @bgrhubarb for the link to the article! Tickets are still available for all three shows. You can find links to tickets on our Live Comedy Tour page.

More on Needy Tweeters
Twitter’s own blog reported on Craig’s decision to invited a Twitter fan to appear on the show last week.

UConn Digs Craig
The University of Connecticut student newspaper The Daily Campus has a great review of Craig and the Late Late Show.

Downton Abbey 3
The BBC program that has captivated the UK more than any show in recent memory and drawn hundreds of thousands of new American fans into the world of British period drama is about to return. Downton Abbey‘s third season begins soon in the UK and will be back on PBS in the United States in January. If you haven’t seen the show that Craig has been raving about, we hope you watch the first two seasons and get yourself up to speed. If you have, and don’t mind some mild spoilers, check out the trailer for season 3:

Tonight’s Guests
Monday on the Late Late Show, Craig’s guests are actor/author Ben Stein and a last-minute addition, actress Rhona Mitra.  On Tuesday, Craig welcomes actor Adam Goldberg and the now officially announced actress Alison Becker.

Guest Update

Brit Marling

The guest listings have been updated through September 25th, including Brit Marling, Mitch Albom, Neil Patrick Harris, Dennis Quaid, Ellie Kemper, Tom Selleck and Theresa Caputo; plus future guests Jim Parsons, Keanu Reeves and the always entertaining biologist Dan Riskin.  For the most complete and up-to-date listing of upcoming Late Late Show guests anywhere on the Internet (it’s true, we checked), visit our Guests page.

Make Craig Dance
And now for something completely different: An animation of Craig Ferguson dancing. It’s from a website called TheUglyDance.com and allows users to upload a picture of a face to change the appearance of the dancing character. By using the different words in the bottom left and right corners, you can change the way his arms and legs move. The RSA’s @nandicica put a Craig version together and @pinkbirdie48840 let us know about it. Take note, it is a flash-based application and can drain memory quickly from some older computers. It’s fun to try!

That Other Late Late Show
America’s version of the Late Late Show has been around for 17 years, but Ireland’s version has been on the air for 50 years. It is considered the flagship program of Ireland’s RTE network. It draws big audiences and attracts some of the UK’s biggest names as guests. As the UK’s Independent reports, BBC chat show host Graham Norton said last week he would be interested in one day hosting the show.

Horse Dragons
The RSA’s @hoborobot can find anything on the internet, including a costume mask to transform your horse into a dragon. We can only imagine Secretariat transforming into a dragon in the portal of evil.

MCD Tribute
TV Guide calls Craig’s tribute to Michael Clarke Duncan one of TV’s top moments of the week. Thanks to the RSA’s @tpcat29 for the link!

Craig on the Nerdist
Last year when the @Nerdist Chris Hardwick debuted the television version of his podcast of BBC America, his first guest was Craig Ferguson. The RSA’s @keepintouch0 reminded us of the appearance which was hilarious.

This Week’s Guests

Joel Stein

It’s another week of all-new episodes of the Late Late Show beginning Monday when Craig welcomes back actor/author/pundit Ben Stein.  On Tuesday, Craig chats with actor Adam Goldberg.  On Wednesday, watch for actress Heather Graham and journalist Joel Stein.  Actress Katey Sagal and astronaut Mike Massimino will be in the studio on Thursday.  And on Friday, Craig’s guest is actor/author Tom Lennon. Canadian comedian Gerry Dee has tweeted that he’ll be on this week, as has actress Alison Becker. We’ll add them to the list as soon as specific days are confirmed.

Guest Update

Ellie Kemper

Added to the guest list for future tapings are Ellie Kemper and Dennis Quaid. You can see the most complete listings on our Guests page any time.

Josh on Reddit

The voice of Geoff Peterson, Josh Robert Thompson, did an “Ask me anything” turn on Reddit Friday. Here is the full transcript, where he answers a bunch of fan questions. He does these from time to time, either on Reddit or just on Twitter. Follow Josh’s Twitter account to get a heads-up on future question-and-answer sessions.

Josh Opens for Craig
During the Reddit Q & A session, Josh noted that he’ll be opening for Craig in Las Vegas later this month. Craig is performing at the Venetian September 13th, 14th and 15th. You can get tickets to those shows or any of Craig’s live appearances by following the link on our Live Comedy Tour page.

NYC Tweetup
The RSA’s @Colleen_Byrne tells us she is planning a tweetup for RSA members attending Craig’s live stand up comedy performance at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on October 6th. She’s organizing a group to get together between 3-5:30pm on Saturday afternoon at a location to be announced near the hall, leaving plenty of time to get ready for the 8pm show. If you are interested in joining the group, please tweet Collen directly.

September Birthdays

Macy Gray

For the record, we celebrate the birthdays of anyone, past or present. Just because they’ve shuffled off this mortal coil doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate that they were here. Saturday, September 8th is the birthday of comedian Sid Caesar, actor Peter Sellers, singer Patsy Cline and Dancing With The Stars co-host Brooke Burke. Sunday, September 9th is the birthday of actor Michael Keaton, actor Hugh Grant, model Rachel Hunter and singer Macy Gray. In the clip below, the pioneering Patsy Cline sings one of her best-known hits on The Glenn Reeves Show on February 23rd, 1963, just 11 days before she died in a plane crash.

Needy Tweeters
A woman named Amber who goes by the name @rare_basement on Twitter was planning to see a taping of the Late Late Show on Friday. She tweeted about how excited she was to see the show, wanting to sit in lesbian row and wanting to meet Craig Ferguson.  Since Craig keeps his eye on Twitter, he noticed and said:

Hey @rare_basement. I can’t think why you’re so desperate to be on my show. But. Okay. If you insist. #showsomeidtosecurity #dontfuckup

Once again, it’s proof that Craig does read his tweets. If you’re polite and aren’t too negative, it makes things better for everyone.

Is Your Love Big Enough?
Billboard.com profiles British singer-songwriter Lianne La Havas, who will be appearing on the Late Late Show September 17th.

Building Geoff
Back in 2010, when Grant Imahara offered to build Craig a robot skeleton sidekick, no one knew how far the idea would go. Geoff Peterson has become a fixture on the show, with many improvements along the way, including the live voice of Josh Robert Thompson, wireless controls and enhanced movements. But in the beginning, the design and plans were more modest. National Public Radio interviewed Grant at the time.

Behind the Red Curtain
The RSA’s @hoborobot imagined what would happen if the King of the Hill gang got Dale‘s band together to play on the Late Late Show.

Wavy and Charles
When the Late Late Show first starting taping in high definition, there were many meetings about the possibility of needing to modify the puppets in case more of them would show on screen.  The result was Charles, the alligator.  Naturally, Craig was amused by this.

Tonight’s Guests

Friday on the Late Late Show, Craig’s guests are actor Kunal Nayyar and actress Lauren Miller.

Guest Update

Mitch Albom

Added to the list of guests for future tapings are Mitch Albom and Neil Patrick Harris. You can see the most complete and up-to-date listings on our Guests page.

DVR Alert: Broadcast of the Late Late Show may be delayed “in you region” on Thursday, if CBS coverage of the Democratic National Convention runs long. We will keep you up to date if the show is delayed, here and on our Twitter feed.

Haggis Chips

After our most recent post mentioned haggis-flavored potato chips, we just couldn’t resist seeing if there were other places to find them, and sure enough, Amazon.com has them, along with canned haggis, black pudding and other Scottish foods. If you want deep-fried Mars bars, you’ll have to do the deep frying yourself.

Hilton Headline
Perez Hilton appreciated Craig’s tribute to Michael Clarke Duncan on Tuesday’s show.

No Marching Allowed
The English translation of a news website covering the India- and Pakistan-controlled areas of Kashmir has a story about a planned protest by government administrative employees over back pay.  It wasn’t the story itself that caught the attention of the RSA’s @MuseumTwenty, but the headline. We wonder if there will be cheery, bouncy library music involved.

Tote Bag Fun
The RSA’s @hoborobot was looking around the internet and found at tote bag that would be appropriate for the Late Late Show and its cooking segments with Geoff Peterson standing in the background.

Lynn Visits
Back in 2008, Craig’s sister Lynn Ferguson was a guest on the show and comedy gold ensued.

Tonight’s Guests
Thursday on the Late Late Show, Craig’s guests are actress Angela Kinsey, television writer/producer David Simon and the band The Heavy.  Kinsey tweeted:

Hey @jennafischer, I got a mug from @craigyferg! Jealous? 😉 http://instagr.am/p/PQJbyFMwa5/

And Craig tweeted:

It’s the lovely @angelakinsey and David Simon – creator of The Wire- The Fucking Wire!- on the show tonight. #Omarbecomin

Friday, Craig welcomes actor Kunal Nayyar and actress Lauren Miller.

DVR Alert: Broadcasts of the Late Late Show may be delayed “in you region” on Wednesday and Thursday of this week, if CBS coverage of the Democratic National Convention runs long. On Wednesday, the show will begin shortly after 1:05am ET/12:05am CT. We will keep you up to date if other shows are delayed, here and on our Twitter feed.

Remembering MCD

New York’s Newsday reported on Craig Ferguson‘s tribute on Tuesday’s show to Michael Clarke Duncan, and the Cumbernauld News from Craig’s hometown had a story, noting that Duncan was part of the Late Late Show’s Scotland trip back in March.

Haggis Chips
The RSA’s Hot Sauce Kim checked with the Things Celtic store in Austin, Texas, to see if they sold the Angry Scotsman Chewing Gum we mentioned in a post last week.  And while they did not, she tells us they have recently ordered “haggis flavored potato chips” from their Scottish supplier, if anyone is interested.  They sound delicious!

No Larry Abroad

We have been alerted by several skellies that the hulu.com video of Larry King’s interview with Craig is not visible outside of the United States. We did not realize they had set geographic restrictions on the video but if we are made aware of a version of the video visible elsewhere, we will pass it along here on the website.

UStream Slips
As reported on CNN.com, the folks at UStream.com are apologizing for cutting off a live webcast of the Hugo science fiction book awards ceremony over the weekend. It happened when a clip from a Doctor Who episode written by Neil Gaiman was played before Gaiman’s speech. The awards ceremony had permission to play the clip but when UStream’s system detected a copyright violation it automatically shut down the webcast.

Craig on CBS
Craig will be appearing at the Paley Center in New York on October 4th, where he will be interviewed by Dave Itzkoff of the New York Times. While the main room is sold out, tickets to see the conversation live on closed-circuit television at the Center are still available. Back on May 10th, Craig appeared for a similar event at the Paley Center in Beverly Hills, where he talked about his relationship with CBS.

DVR Alert: Broadcasts of the Late Late Show may be delayed “in you region” on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week, if CBS coverage of the Democratic National Convention runs long. On Tuesday, the show will begin about 8 minutes late, at 12:45am ET/11:45pm CT. We will keep you up to date if any of the shows are delayed, here and on our Twitter feed.

Larry Interviews Craig
As he promised on the Late Late Show last week, Larry King interviewed Craig Ferguson on his new online talk show this week. Below is the entire interview, from Ora.tv through hulu.com. Our apologies in advance for the several embedded commercials:

Geoff Costume

The Mythbusters Grant Imahara met a new friend wearing a familiar costume over the weekend:

One of the most disturbing costumes from this weekend: @GeoffTheRobot. cc: @craigyferg pic.twitter.com/m0xtJaXT

Geoff Tries Scouting
If a Geoff Peterson costume isn’t cool enough, how about Geoff as a girl scout? Talk about versatile!  Thanks to the RSA’s @doxieone1 for sending us the link!

Portal of Evil

The RSA’s @hoborobot had an idea that seems to blend Secretariat‘s portal, Sid and Monty Python‘s killer rabbits. The result is a little scary but funny.

Tonight’s Guests
Tuesday on the Late Late Show, Craig welcomes back comedienne Kathy Griffin. On Wednesday, Craig chats with actor Jeremy Irons and actress Monica Potter.

Guest Update

Melissa Etheridge

A bunch of new guests have been added to September’s listings, including this Friday, where Jeff Goldblum has been moved to a later date and will be replaced by Kunal Nayyar.  Lauren Miller remains on Friday’s schedule.  Next week, Craig will host Ben Stein, Adam Goldberg, Heather Graham, Joel Stein, Katey Sagal, Mike Massimino and Tom Lennon.  And the following week’s list includes Julie Chen, Warren Sapp, Lianne La Havas, John Goodman, Arjay Smith, and long-ago-bumped-but-finally-back musician Melissa Etheridge.  See the complete listings on our Guests page.
