Meeting Craig in Vegas
Among the Craig Ferguson fans who had a chance to meet our fearless leader during his three-night run of stand up comedy performances last weekend was the RSA’s @sjump54, who sent us her story:

[stextbox id=”custom”]Seeing and meeting Craig Ferguson in Las Vegas this past weekend was a dream come true. I spent the weekend with @colleen_byrne and @Diane4forMail. We such fun! We arrived Friday and went to the show that night. Josh Robert Thompson opened for Craig and did a fantastic job. His impressions are spot on! Then, as he does, Craig introduced himself from backstage and then bounded on stage. His energy is electrifying. The crowd was good and everyone seemed to be laughing like crazy. It was over too soon.

The next day the three of us went on a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon. We flew to the Skywalk built by the Hualapai Indian Tribe. I highly recommend this trip to anyone. It was breathtaking.

Saturday night was our meet and greet show. I had noticed a small poster for Craig’s show in the elevator. Since Saturday was Craig’s last show, I decided to “liberate” him, and we took him to dinner with us.

Saturday night’s show was even better than Friday’s. The crowd was bigger and more into both Josh and Craig. Both men varied their acts enough to make you laugh even more. And Craig made himself laugh twice. So job well done.

It was very interesting to watch Craig during the meet and greet. He was unfailing kind to everyone even though he was obviously exhausted. It was quick, but he talked to everyone. I had him sign the poster I acquired (seen above), and he laughed when I told him how I got it. He was very kind to @colleen_byrne and @Tb40Too, another RSA member we met.

It was a night to remember forever.[/stextbox]

One Serious Craig Fan

A writer for the UK-based online magazine Sabotage Times has posted a lengthy defense of Craig as the best late night talk show host. Thanks to the RSA’s @missgraoully for the link!

US TV Debut
Nonesuch Records is promoting singer Lianne La Havas on Monday’s show, her first appearance on US television.

Voice of Sandra

The voice of Sandra the Rhino, mounted above the fireplace behind Geoff Peterson is performed by actress Dana DeLorenzo. She has appeared in A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas, several television shows and is known for her ability as a voice impressionist. Here is a look at her performing several different celebrity voices:

Craig Back in LA

After Saturday night’s stand up comedy show at the Venetian in Las Vegas, Craig Ferguson headed out into the desert night for the drive back to Los Angeles. He tweeted:

Driving from Las Vegas to L.A. across the Mojave at night. Might stop for some Alien Jerky. And also dried meat. #jokeformula

Skellies Enjoy Craig’s Vegas Run
Several robot skeletons made the trip to Las Vegas to see Craig and his opening act, Josh Robert Thompson perform live on stage. Among them was the RSA’s @sjump54, who enjoyed the shows on both Friday and Saturday night. She sent us the photo of the marquee from the Venetian showroom above as well as a poster for the show she invited along for dinner:

Guess who joined us for dinner. Waiter even brought him a water! pic.twitter.com/X4j4lGGy

Hobo Backstage

The RSA’s @samlefaye was one of Craig’s fans who had a chance to take part in the “meet and greet” backstage. Although in the past Craig would occasionally sign a book or pose for a picture at a stage door, he tends to leave most shows very quickly. The one exception in recent years has been his shows in Las Vegas, where VIP ticket holders have a chance to say hello.

Good Times in Vegas
The last time Craig was in Las Vegas, it was for an adventure with Geoff Peterson and plenty of friends.

Tonight’s Guests
It’s another week of all-new episodes of the Late Late Show, beginning Monday when Craig talks with TV host TV Host Julie Chen and football player Warren Sapp, plus we’ll hear the music of Lianne La Havas.  On Tuesday, Craig welcomes actor John Goodman, actor Arjay Smith and singer Melissa Etheridge.  Wednesday’s guests are still listed as “to be announced,” but we did notice that actress Sophia Bush is scheduled for a taping that day. We’ll pass along the official word when we know more. Author Mitch Albom is the lone guest listed for Thursday. And on Friday, Craig chats with actor Neil Patrick Harris.

Wrapping up in Vegas
Craig Ferguson‘s three-day stand up comedy run at the Venetian in Las Vegas wrapped up Saturday night.  Among the many fans in the audience was the RSA’s @Tb40Too, who sent us her story:

[stextbox id=”custom”]Craig Ferguson. 50% comedian, 50% entertainer, 100% gentleman! Under usual circumstances, that would be a joke, but in Vegas it’s not only true, it appears to be very nearly a job requirement. Luckily, we’re dealing with our very favorite Mr. Ferguson, and he filled all three roles with his above usual class.

Friday’s show opened with the ever amazing Josh Robert Thompson. I was thrilled to think I had finally heard his real voice when it occurred to me, with his talents, how could I be sure? He could be doing himself doing Craig doing him!

Then Craig made his entrance and the rest of the night flew by in ceaseless laughter and aching facial muscles. He was nothing less than a naughty delight you hope will never end, but does and then Gentleman Craig appears to sign autographs and take pictures.

One would hope this would go without saying, but it hasn’t been my experience so far. If you get the chance to meet this man in person and are tempted to maul him, don’t. Just don’t. (Unless, of course it’s mutual, than who am I to care?).[/stextbox]

His chattiness returns to Los Angeles for a few weeks of all-new episodes of the Late Late Show and then launches his fall tour of the northeastern United States, with shows in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Connecticut October 5th through the 13th. As regular readers saw in @Tb40Too’s experience and more skellies who sent their stories in our most recent post, being in the audience for Craig’s live shows is a fun time. Don’t miss your chance to see Craig live and in person this fall. You can see dates, times, locations and ticket information on our Live Comedy Tour page.

Tattoo Inspiration
The RSA’s @2Hearts_OneSoul has a new tattoo, inspired by none other than our fearless leader. It’s a great symbol along with some wise words.

Go Team
The president of Craig’s production company Rebecca Tucker tweeted some great news on Saturday. Congratulations!

Team Late Late Show finished 13th out of 1218 at the Nautica Malibu Triathlon today, despite the ridiculous heat #sportsbrafarmerstan

September Birthdays

Lauren Bacall

Saturday, September 15th is the birthday of country music legend Roy Acuff, Jazz master Julian Cannonball Adderley, opera maven Jessye Norman and Britain’s Prince Harry. Sunday, September 16th is the birthday of actress Lauren Bacall, blues guitarist B.B. King, actor Peter Falk and actress Jennifer Tilly who couldn’t possibly by 54, could she? For today’s video clip, we couldn’t decide between B.B. King and Cannonball Adderley, so we’ll treat you to both. First, King has the “3 O’clock Blues,” followed by one of Adderley’s signature tunes, “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy.”

Simmering in Sin City
Craig Ferguson is enjoying a three-day run at the Venetian in Las Vegas, performing his live stand up comedy show at the casino resort’s main showroom.  The voice of Geoff Peterson, Josh Robert Thompson is opening for Craig all weekend.   The largest newspaper in town, the Las Vegas Review-Journal, put together a great interview with Craig.

Skellies in the House

Several robot skeletons, Late Late Show fans and assorted hobos were in the audience on Thursday night for the first of Craig’s three shows, including the RSA’s @sarieswick, who blogged about her experience.

Also in the crowd was the RSA’s @lockofire who sent us this account:

[stextbox id=”custom”]The show opened with Josh Thompson doing his best voices, including Robert Downey, Jr., Robert de Niro and of course Morgan Freeman.  Josh read some of 50 Shades of Grey which got the crowd rolling with laughter.

Then out came Craig with his usual flair of sexiness.  Wearing jeans and a blazer, Craig moved around the stage, delivering his act which he has refined  since I last saw him in Portland 5 months ago.  He made it fresh by doing some ad-libbing and talking with a few intoxicated VIPs.

Sitting in the front row I could see his twinkling blue eyes and the confidence in his walk.

Seeing Craig in Vegas was definitely worth the trip and perhaps it’s time for me to see him tape a live show in LA![/stextbox]

Baby Rhino
The Philadelphia Zoo has a new arrival this week:  A baby rhinoceros, born on Thursday.  The RSA’s @hoborobot suggests that they name it Sandra.

Viva Las Vegas
It’s been a little more than two years since Craig Ferguson brought his live stand up comedy act to Las Vegas.  He appeared at the Venetian in June of 2010 and returns this week for three shows, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, this time with the voice of Geoff Peterson, Josh Robert Thompson, opening for him.  Craig tweeted:

I’m performing at @VenetianVegas in Las Vegas with @joshrthompson this weekend. Come along & get naked. Gingerly. #princeharry

The Whole TV Show
Craig’s stand up act is simply him, pacing the stage with a microphone in hand, saying what’s on his mind.  One writer for the website VegasSeven.com is a big fan of the Late Late Show and wonders what it would be like if Craig brought many of the elements of the TV show on the road. Thanks to the RSA’s @bgrhubarb for finding the article.

Not Your Average Day
Rebecca Tucker, the President of Craig’s production company, tweeted about fun telephone call she received on Thursday:

Awesome phone call with a Mythbuster: @ToryBelleci “sorry I missed your call. i was covered in snakes”.

Wednesday on the Late Late Show, actress Heather Graham and journalist Joel Stein are Craig’s guests.  On Thursday, Craig chats with actress Katey Sagal and astronaut Mike Massimino.

Sandra the Rhino
The “something weird” Craig Ferguson and LLS producer Michael Naidus tweeted about Monday night turned out to be Sandra the Rhino (made of kittens and mounted above the fireplace behind Geoff) talking! The RSA’s @hoborobot anticipated that Sandra might speak, creating an image last week.  On Monday, Craig tweeted:

Mixed reaction to Sandra the talking rhino who made her debut on the show last night. Some like, some hate. I agree #notsure

Craig will probably keep experimenting to see what happens. We have not heard which actress is providing Sandra’s voice.

Remembering September 11th
Craig also tweeted a reminder of the events of September 11th, 2001.

I hate this bloody day #remember
